The Guerilla Rock Revolution is an organization whose goal is to take music out of the hands of the corporations and put it back into the hands of the people. Passionate and spontaneous street performances are what drive the revolution. These types of street rock exhibitions help realize the true place of music in society, by playing to people from all walks of life rather than people in a particular "scene".Guerilla Rock takes the idea of music away from the venue owner or their trashy bookers and gives the power of authority back to the people that deserve it... the artists. Imagine if musicians quit playing "shows". If instead of the need to feel validated by some cultural institution artists felt the freedom to do whatever they want in public performances. Such a phenomenon would not only subvert the codified hierarchal structure of how music gets from the artist to the people, but it would force the listener to engage with the sound in a way that has nothing to do with marketing or hype and everything to do with passion and excitement. Many musicians seem to hope that they can somehow change the system from within the system. That through psuedo-political lyrics or raw emotion or challenging music they will be able to exploit the status quo of the music industry to get their message out to as many people as possible and then change things from within. Unfortunately this strategy has failed for musicians time and time again. Unless one is willing to circumvent the normal channels they will always be susceptible to being co-opted by the very culture industry that they are attempting to challenge. Music has historically been a harborer of social change. Whenever extreme changes in the musical system have taken place they have been followed soon afterward by extreme changes in society. The time has come for musicians to take a pro-active role in creating radical changes in the way our cultural artifacts are being presented to the public and thus be the forebearer of revolutionary social change to take place in the 21st century.
