Born in 1985, in and around The North Eastern section of The Bronx, NY. Young Berest Anthony Thompson grew up in an era of struggle, drug trafficking, hard times and tribulations. In a neighborhood full of shoot outs and drug dealers, at the time Cali was too young to know what type of environment he was in, but his parents knew that he could not be raised in such an area. In turn he was raised and taught the things that would keep him out of trouble, bad company and most importantly, out of Jail! In 1989 his Mother (Jackie) Father (George) and brother (Dwight) Moved to a calmer atmosphere on the other side of the hill of Boston rd., on a block named Grace Ave. From then on Berest went on to Elementary to find his niche in society, become educated and foremost found his true love! Music! In About 4th or 5th grade he was living on and off with his Godfather (Hugh) on the other side of the "hood. His godfather rented a room to a Beautiful lady Cali called Auntie Sharon, and her son Marcel. Marcel and Cali grew up together like cousins attended the same elementary school and shared similar interests. Around Junior high school days Marcel found a love for hip hop introducing Cali to such Artists as Mobb Deep, Jay-Z, and Domino with the Ghetto Jam which was Cali's first and favorite song, at that era. From then on Rap music in a whole became a new inspiration and interest in Cali 's life mainly because of the tight lyrics and the catchy melody's on tracks that were superb. Around the Era of such artists like Big Pun, Beatnuts, Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz, New school KRS-One, Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop and Dre and My nigga 2Pac Shakur is when Cali really started to feel his love for Hip-Hop. His Three Favorite Artists 2Pac, Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz and Wu-Tang Clan! These Artists would open a new page in the life of Cali which could either build him a new image or take a toll on his life completely. From 1997-98 he began to write lyrics, spit them on his computer and then record them in 2000 at his friend Harrys house to put out the first ever "Calico Royal -Freestyles and Flows" . Attending Blessed Sacrament St.Gabriel High School in his late Freshman early Sophomore days, his Friend Len aka Duke Don Lenno, had heard the Cd and burned a few copies for classmates and from then on Berest was known as....Calicoooooo! In 2002-03 Calico's brother introduced Cali to his best friend Bobby's younger brother "Ray". Raymond aka CEO of "Ra Jah Ru records LLC", met with Cali on various occasions, discussed business and was handed a few Cd's with Cali rapping over them. In turn Raymond was pleased and "Calicon Royal" was born in "WhatsGood" Studio's engineered by "STRESS". " The First Freestyle was Aiight" says Cali but it was just the beginning. In His most Recent Accomplishments, Calicon Royal has Gone back to his Parents home Country Of Jamaica. In Doing this he Met with Jamaican Dj PassaRella aka RassaRella, Thru the husband of Bob Marleys Daughter(ALI). Utilizing this Connection He made a name for himslef by Rapping with Rugged flows and Wa Brought into Shocking vibes to be Heard! Passarella Found Calicon's Tru Niche in the Jamaican Feild and Put him on to the new Wicked Riddim The Tup tup Riddim! on the Riddim is Featured Big Ship Recording Artist Craig Dennis.... Calicon and Craig Finessed the Song and Was brought out to Jamaica's Largest night Club In Kingston On June 29th to Do a set for Passarellas " A Part A we DIS" Show. Calicon Basically Opend up for the Bigship Act Feat: Craig Dennis, Chino, Freddie Mcgregor, and Red bull and Guiness man Delly Ranx! The Show was Successfully Great and Another show was lined up for Calicon Before he left Jamaica! BoBo Smith Brother and Friend Of the Infamous Sizzla kalonji, came The satuarday night before Calicon left to take Calicon to Preform with him and Sizzla's Exclusive Sound Tafari Sound!/Judgement yard! This was at Papaine High school! Bobo Said"Yeah man Sizzla seen you preform and Said your BAD!" Calicon Was Anxious to Reach, and as he got there He was givin the Greatest Big-up and shout out on the Exclusive sound! and Went on to preform with Bobo Smith and A select few other artists for that Show. From then On Calicon comes at tracks wicked, rugged, raspy, and for the most part hype! Calicon's style is like no other, wtih influences such as Snoop Dogg, Dr.Dre, 2Pac Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz, Wu-Tang Clan,Jay-Z,Outkast,T.I.
