The Carnies

"A Brilliant and Fearless Release"

About Me

.. CDBABY LINK for THE CARNIES: Hardcore Nursery Rhyme Renditions --

The Carnies are an ecstatic art rock band, expanding the storytelling realm with eccentric and hauntingly alluring music. Lavish vocals recount the curious mind mapping storylines, while the visceral guitar/keys and resonant bass merge with the driving and rhythmic pulse of the drums. With such disparate influences as Kate Bush, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Pixies, and The Replacements The Carnies draw from an ecclectic collection. The Carnies have played venues such as The Knitting Factory, CBGB's, The Sidewalk Cafe, , and have been featured on the show Moonwork. Their albums include Endless Stripping (2003), The Carnies Live (2005), Hardcore Nursery Rhyme Renditions (2006), and are currently working on their third album Weather the Spell******************************************************* ********"Small hands? Smell of cabbage? Must be The Carnies! Actually their music evokes sonic images of delicate beauty and grace rather than toothless tilt-a-whirl operators. Well crafted songs and solid musicianship abound! Two tickets please" -Block Island Music Festival**************************************************** ***********"The Carnies are ripe for a cult following: Melissa Cupernall’s Kate Bush-fueled fantasies are built on layer upon layer of rewarding subtleties. Jungian psychologists could have a field day with all the fairy tale and subconscious imagery in here."- Dan Barry Hartford Advocate**************************************************** ***********"The Carnies, a band from New York City, are scarily reminiscent of the Pixies and kind of like Souxsie and the Banshees. Melissa Cupernall belts out strong vocals and spin webs of almost operatic, nightmarish and rock solid style." - Kit********************************************************* *******I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

Sounds Like: schweet goodness and the tiny sneezes of insects***************************************************** ***********Alas, no we are not the christian rock band, though we support any other Carnies of this world...(christian/punk/atheist/agnostic/male/female/goat/ot her).******************************************************* *********Yes, I wish the band was named after Carnie Wilson but alas, that is not the origin of the band's name******************************************************** ********The (Beef)Heart of the Matter:The band The Carnies is the brain-child of Melissa Cupernall. The band was born in 2001 whilst Ms. Cupernall was attending Purchase College***************************************************** ***********Ms. Cupernall was thinking of merging Captain Beefheart aka Don Van Vliet (her hero who she happened to be born on the same day as) and The Pixies. Carne means "MEAT" in Spanish and I believe "TOUGH MEAT" in French (the ode to Beefheart). Also, Edith Piaf was rumoured to have been born into a family of Carnies' and I could probably go on for days about other such connections. Fascinating Wander-Abouts in the whole Carnie scene really
