SHINE-ROC MOVEMENTS“SHINE-ROC†a native of Kingston Jamaica, began his musical career in his early twenties. His passion for music is quite evident. As a youngster, “Shine-Roc†played with musical toy instruments and sang with various choirs. His mother as he referred to as “mamaâ€, contributed significantly to his musical interests. She always encouraged his musical passion by purchasing musical toys and supporting his involvement in the church and various choirs.
As a teenager, “Shine-Roc†developed a overwhelming interest in the musical and lyrical content of artists such Barrington Levy, Admiral Tibet, Ernie Smith, Jimmy Cliff, Beres Hammond and Bob Marley. Upon seeing live performances from his long admired icons, he became especially engrossed in the world of music. “Shine-Roc†desire to extend his message of love and unity stems mainly from the unremitting political violence and class division that he witnessed in the inner cities of Kingston.
Prior to pursuing his musical career, “Shine-Roc†worked as a teaching assistant at a local high school and later as an accounting clerk with the Ministry of Education. Neither profession, however, provided him with the fulfillment he sought. Teaching, he admitted, allowed him to share some of his values. However, he wished to share his teachings with a wider audience. Undoubtedly, his music provided this forum.
Ironically, when “Shine-Roc†migrated to Canada in the early nineties, he did not immediately pursue his musical career. Instead, he teamed up with his brother to promote local dances and stage shows. Although he continued to surround himself in the reggae music scene as a music promoter, he still maintained his zeal to establish himself as a reggae artist.“Shine-Roc†began his career in the mid nineties, when his first two singles were released “Humble Yourself†and “Evil A Gwaanâ€. The single “Evil A Gwaan†which was released by BiggsRock Records under the stage name at the time “L.A. Rock†and produced at “Dub World Recording Studio†had brought him international recognition through Miami, England, Jamaica and Toronto Canada. He then released another single in 1997 “If You Drink Don’t Driveâ€, which was a big hit in Miami and other states in America and also drew attention in Canada. This song gave him a lot of respect wherever it has been performed or played. In 1997 while his single was hot he did a nine show tour from Windsor to Peterborough in the province of Ontario with “RZ Jacksonâ€, “Better-way†and the “Mighty Mystic†where he was the headline artist. His message was well received by his audience whenever he performed. After the tour, he moved on to start his own band “The Rock Band†which had made another statement for him as fans across the States and Canada were curious to know what this band was all about. This band had gotten various promotions through the media and through shows they performed. In 1998, “Shine-Roc†began to set up his own recording studio. He started out “Studio Kitchen†in the kitchen of his apartment where he continued to develop his musical career and practiced as a Recording Engineer, by the year 2001 he had out grown the kitchen and moved his studio to a more commercial location of the city of downtown Toronto. This time from a studio kitchen to “Rambass Recording Studio†where he had done a lot of work with a lot of artist and also had recorded up to four albums to his credit to be released. His new single “Don’t Bust-It†and “Hungry And Free†is kicking on the air waves and local fans requesting his long awaiting debut album. “Don’t Bust-It†was number one for many weeks on the “CHRY 105.5†chart (Natty B and Bigga, Zion Train program) and stayed on the charts for over eight months. It was even song of the year on the “Zion Train†program.
In an immersed effort to distinguish himself in the Reggae industry, “Shine-Roc†has taken on names from “L.A. Rock†to “Roots Rocâ€. His current stage name still retains “Rocâ€, which is taken from his nickname “Rockyâ€. “Shine†the newer addition to his stage name has emerged from his growth and maturity over the years. He has also asserted that the “Shine†represents the values and beliefs that his messages will impart onto his listeners.www.myspace.com/shinerocmusic or
