Rraurl.com was created in 1997 by DJs Gil Barbara and Camilo Rocha, along with journalist GaÃa Passarelli. It started as a cheeky electronic fanzine whose goal was to promote the recently-born Brazilian rave scene. With writing from the three members plus some guests, rraurl.com came to this world as a small website willing to speak to an audience hungry for dance album reviews, DJ charts, rave maps and pictures from parties. We offered all this along with a critical view on the Brazilian electronic scene.
In ten years of existence, a lot has changed. The site has become a reliable source of information, talking not only about electronic music made and heard in Brazil (partygoers, clubs, raves, artists and DJs) but about upfront and interesting music in general, with one eye on the alternative side of things and the other on the pop side. Rraurl.com is currently a complete electronic magazine, with a guide of selected events, DJ mixes from all around the country, music/video/book reviews, interviews, video and audio content. And of course, the always busy and controversial members’ forum.
2007 is the year where we celebrate one decade of life online. A new version of the site is being prepared and should go up in the first half of this year. The high point of this celebration will be a multimedia festival: a mix of video, visual arts and discussion, always focusing on alternative and cutting edge music, made by those who live and breathe this scene.
