I remember getting my first guitar @ 17... a friend and I began to play together. The first song I learned was "Endless Sleep" by Jody Reynolds, then "Walk Don't Run... The Ventures, "Learnin' The Blues", Frank Sinatra... then I found a couple of platters that blew me away! Mr. B.B. King and an instrumental album by Mr. Freddy King..... that's when I discovered the guitar could be an outlet, even an extension of my innermost feelings. I had to learn "Sweet Sixteen" and "Hideaway." The next step were lots of brew, recording an album in Hiawatha, Kansas owned by a guy that used to play w/ Benny Goodman. He sat in w/ us... we had a great time (only had enough money for 1 album, so I gave it to my mother) and I moved on into the Blues. The "Kings" and Bobby Bland mixed w/ some James Brown became my main musical stay.
A great old Kansas City Bluesman, Mr. Claude Williams spent hours teaching me the musical necessities. Then came listening to Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Paul Butterfield, Junior Wells, Jimmy Johnson and a host of other blues greats.
Countless bands, muscians, lifes experiences, many, many blessings from God, and sixty three years of living and loving the blues... learning more and more with each experience that music and the guitar, for me, was an extension of mental visual stories of lifes experiences. I "see" the experience... the emotion from the heart... translates to the six string magical tool to express that emotional feeling.
So, after all these years of enjoying life and the guitar, the many blessings from God, I decided it was time to share my "Blues With A View."
