About Me

:: .
I can’t write a popular song to save my life…I’ve been through too much turmoil to paint just silly pretty pictures……I believe that in order to tell the truth you must also tell about the dark side of life……..In order to reach people, you can tell them what they want to hear ….Or you can lower yourself down to the level of heartache and real living……and whisper …”hey I‘ve been there too….”I find its amazing when you sing at the level of bitter life and heartache……people actually listen….I also find its helpful to tell a few jokes in between serious songs…I laugh at myself so I won‘t cry……..Life ain’t no staged reality show and I ain’t no pop star…..but I do believe that you can create your own hope….and I’m on my way to learning how………

"Kristi has been compared to Joni Mitchell, Jewel, and even at times for the power of her voice Janis Joplin. Her songs are captivating and unique."---Charelston's Post and Courier
".......all at once melodic and soft, but also raw and emotional. She shifts effortlessly between sounding bluesy, rock'n'roll, folksy, and rootsy......as the night went on, I just kept thinking ---its amazing this woman doesn't have a major recording contract. But then again, there is something to say for the intimacy of her shows in these small venues......Kristi is very warm and friendly with the audience, interacting between songs......But more than her open personality, people come to see Kristi for her music. She does a great combination of amazing originals and unique covers.... " That quote is by CharlestonRocks. com
"You've got to check this woman out as she busts her ass to make some amazing music. Kristi is as real as it gets when it comes to singer-songwriters."---Charlestonrocks.com
KRISTI STARR WAS VOTED IN THE TOP FIVE OF SOLO ARTISTS FOR THE WILMINGTON AREA "WHAMMIES" IN 2004 and 2005.
"In the tradition of great songwriters before her...Kristi is a woman of honest voice and simple style....The power of her voice and starkness of her guitar playing combine with thoughtful lyrics that escape triteness and make her shine......"----Charleston Free Times

My Interests

Music:

Member Since: 4/7/2007
Band Website: coming soon
Band Members: I play solo acoustic guitar and sing when I play out in Wilmington NC area clubs and bars.....I play original tunes that are mostly emotional and sometimes downright cynical.....but writing songs has always helped me sort through my emotions....Every once in a while, I write one that’s half decent......The cover songs I pick out to play are songs I dub..."great songs that people forget they like..."...I try to play a little bit of everything for everyone......I am now learning to play the banjo too.........My twin sister is growing up a family bluegrass band and it is loads of fun for me to play banjo and sing with her.....It will be years before the whole band is "Good enough" and "old enough" to put some shows on...but I figure the banjo and bluegrass is something I can play for the rest of my life no matter how many wrinkles I have....For now, I am playing solo shows and working on my banjo....Working as an ER nurse to make an honest living...I have a daughter who is eleven that I’m teaching to play guitar and she is a natural at singing....
Influences: A mix of everything I’ve ever heard, some of life’s tears, cheap wine, tequilla and Jack Daniels
Sounds Like: My music is a little bit of country, folk and americana. I've spent years of my life playing music in smokey bars in Wilmington NC and Charleston SC. My has style developed over the years out of trying to keep drunk people happy, and trying to put a voice on all the emotions in my head. When I write a song, I write it in about fifteen minutes and jot down what ever comes out of my brain at the time. I either keep it or throw it out, and the stuff I've kept over the years is the stuff that someone somewhere told me they liked.
