Hip-Hop has always been all about expression. The power of the pen merging with the sounds that are unique to the genre have inspired millions, affected popular culture, and ultimately, changed the course of music forever. BH, not only understands the merger, but more importantly, respects it, and the result is his debut album, Expressing the way I Feel.
"I want to let people know what's been on my mind," he explains. "Writing this album set me free."
Hailing from Denver, CO, BH was undoubtedly shaped and molded by his surroundings. Raised primarly between Montbello and South East Aurora, BH often had to put his keen insight to use, a characteristic that he now incorporates into his lyrics.
"The sh*t I'm talking about is the sh*t that I've been through, lived through, it's just real life sh*t," he says of the 16-track album. "It's things that I've experienced first hand or have witnessed."
He started writing rhymes while still in grade school, often battling with his peers on the playground during recess and after school. Always a fierce competitor, losing was never an option for him, and he's carried that philosophy with him throughout the years, using it as his motivation.
By the mid 90's, Denver's underground Hip Hop scene was in full swing, though it would be a few more years before surrounding regions would latch onto to the Mile High's emerging talent. While still in high school, BH began forming alliances with some of the most talented artist and producers in the area, including 100 Proof, KP, Leaf, Minority, Greg T, MVP, LDP, MNLD, and Bootsy G. Soon, his name was being mentioned in rap ciphers throughout the city. Known for his passionate flow and witty lyricism, BH had the ability to captivate, and it has led him to become one of the most recognizable artists in the region.
Now, BH has earned a faithful following of fans, filling venues to capacity throughout Denver as well as the surrounding cities of Boulder, Pueblo and Colorado Springs. As of late, he has been rocking shows in Dallas and Houston as well, building a reputation as a solid performer and powerhouse emcee.
"Performing is like no other feeling," he says. "It's amazing connecting with the crowd."
Although he relishes opportunities to connect with the crowd, most of his solace comes from his pen. Writing has always been cathartic, and penning Expressing the Way I Feel was a moving experience for him. It's a reflection of the obstacles, challenges, adversity and triumphs that have shaped his young life. While his wit and easy charm entice listeners, it's his vivid storytelling ability that propels and separates the release from other material. Rejecting traditional boundaries, BH's capacity to weave intimate life tales is as captivating as his heartfelt flow. Songs like, "No Luv," "Off in the Studio," "Life" and "Writing Rhymes" give an innovative glimpse into his reality.
Produced by some of the most talented producers in the Mile High underground, including KP, Brok, G of Minority and Big Boye among others, BH's debut successfully introduces the talented lyricist to the masses through hard-hitting production and witty conceptualism. Bottom line: Be prepared for the takeover.
