Born in the cold, dark, New Hampshire winter of 2004, “Good Morning Chester†is the brainchild of brothers Christopher (Scooter) and Michael Way. Initially an acoustic duo, the Way brothers expanded their original roots rock songs to include percussion and bass for a full band sound along the lines of Counting Crows and Hootie & The Blowfish. Inspiring and introspective, the songs are tales of real life, told with honesty and soul.
The band consists of Scooter (lead vocals and guitar), Mike (lead guitar and vocals), Marty Morrissey (bass and vocals), and Dave Schneider (drums and percussion). G.M.C. is based out of Manchester, NH – about an hour north of Boston.
The Way brothers entered a modest home-based studio in December of 2004 intending to make a three song demo over a long weekend. What came out of the studio nine days later was a debut album that would thrust the two headfirst into the indie music scene. Released in June 2005, G.M.C.’s debut album “Little Things†has sold consistently at live shows, and is praised by local and regional press as an excellent album for any band, especially an unsigned group. The attention to “Little Things†has helped make G.M.C. an opening act for many artists when they come through New England, including Edwin McCain, Jeffery Gains, Blessed Union of Souls, Brian Vander Ark (of the Verve Pipe), Shawn Mullins, and Dexter Freebish.
The name Good Morning Chester is a tribute to an old friend who got Scooter into music. It is an interesting story (too long to detail here), and gives a good feel for the nature and character of the band. More details can be found on our website.
