My current favorite show is The Office. Can't get enough... I admit that I am also an HBO SLUT: Sopranos, 6 Feet Under, Curb your Enthusiasm, Carnival, Oz, & Rome. Also, I love X-Files, Seinfeld, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Strangers With Candy, Spike TV, SNL, Southpark, Beavis & Butthead, CNN, Crime TV (FORENSIC FILES and the like!) and the Discovery channel. Favorite Authors: JD Salinger ("The Catcher in the Rye" - As with most people, my favorite book ever...), H.P. Lovecraft (...aside from Edgar Allan Poe, the esteemed and infamous originator of modern-day horror fiction written in the 20's and 30's with more influence on the industry than any other could dream of holding a candle to. All hail, mighty Cthulhu!!!) Cormak McCarthy ("Blood Meridian", "Outer Dark", "Child of God", "The Orchard Keeper", "Suttree" - amazing writing talent and deeply disturbing and haunting stories - Blood Meridian is about the most depraved, F'ed up story of death, destruction, murder, and utter Hell on earth I have ever read and it left me profoundly MIND F..CKED and damaged, yet I couldn't wait to read more... Give it a whirl and see for yourself...) Mark Helprin ("A Winter's Tale", "Soldier of the Great War" - amazing writer with the most eloquent writing style known to man - the only books that I routinely re-read paragraphs just to study their structure because they are so gorgeously constructed - stories that will haunt you and make you laugh and cry, but never forget) Harlan Ellison (amazing and disturbing science fiction short stories - truly before his time and an influence for many great writers of horror and science fiction such as the likes Stephen King, this guy is seriously WHACKED and you can be too), Bret Easton Ellis wrote two of my favorite novels: "Less Than Zero" and "American Psycho", which both really resonated with me and I identified with many things in these books, as well as they captured the time period when they were written (late 80's), not happy stories, and quite grisly and disturbing in fact, but Ellis is a fantastic writer whom I respect a lot, David Drake ("Hammer's Slammers", etc. - the king of military science fiction with amazing, gripping, and gritty stories, and lots of 'em too - yeah! FIRE FIRE FIRE!!!! BTW, "Redliners" is one of my all-time fave SF stories), J.R.R. Tolkien ("The Lord of the Rings" - the Great, Great Grandfather of all fantasy stories as we know them today - was Samwise really gay??? ), Stephen R. Donaldson ("Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" nearly as robust and grand as the Lord of the Rings, which isn't a critique given lightly... Thomas C. is about the biggest A-hole hero you will ever love), CS Lewis ("Chronicles of Narnia" - enchanting stories for children and adults alike... mmmmmmm, Turkish Delight!!! ), Peter F. Hamilton ("The Reality Dysfunction" series - this guy must be a frickin genius - the insight used to describe in VAST detail the future of technology and civilization in this massive science fiction epic is beyond words to describe, if only it were true...), Guy Sajer ("The Forgotten Soldier" - one of the most horrific war stories ever written by a Frenchman-turned-German foot soldier who was sent to the frozen Russian Steppe on the Eastern Front during WWII - a true story told from the other side that will leave you broken - war ain't pretty, especially if you are this guy...) "Ghost Wars" by Steve Coll - holy crap what an eye opener this book was! A history of how, through aiding the Mujahdeen in Afghanistan overthrow the Soviet invaders, the CIA (along with the Pakistani secret service and the Saudi royal family) indirectly funded, trained, and armed the very same people that want to eradicate western civilization from the face of the planet, and have the infrastructure in place to strive at doing just that for generations to come. Now there's some good solid thinking! Thanks guys! ***NOW READING: The "Harry Potter" series (Yes... I finally sold out, and I'm loving every minute of it!!!) =) MyGen Profile Generator
