I think my mind is a beach, where each grain of sand is a thought or memory. But alas, I've always hated the beach. Too many outings as a child that ended in unpleasantries. On my beach there are thousands of speckled umbrellas and carfully lain beach towels that decorate the landscape like gumdrops on the top of a white birthday cake, and there is a life gaurd that carries a red floatation device which has a large, white cross on it, but its not religious. Anyway, the cross' paint is peeling. Sometimes, on my beach, tiny people have to string up a tiny red flag onto a tall, white poll that reads "danger" because tiny stinging jelly fish have washed up onto my sands. Other times the tiny people, who I have grown to hate because they stomp continuously over my sand, making it hard packed, leak sunblock onto my beach causing the little grains to congeal in the intense heat. Life isn't always a picknick at my beach, either. Hungry seagulls circle like vultures over head and underfoot spiders crawl into your sneakers and nest in your wallet which you have stuffed craftily into the toe. But sometimes, when the weather is just above 30 degrees Celsius, and a warm rain has just tasted its last plunge, there is a clearing, like finally clearing your sinuses after a bloated, awful head cold, and the sand becomes supple and perfect.
