The name is Haze. Dolores Haze. But you can call me Dolly or Lo or Lola or Lolita. Take your pick. I'm a disgustingly conventional little girl. When I choose, I can be a most exasperating brat. I go into tantrums at the least provocation. I'm an orphan. My daddy died in a coma after being attacked by rabid dogs. My mother was a celebrated motion picture actress, struck by lightning. I live with my stepfahther. And we travel round the country in my mother's natty old sedan, living in motels. I'm skipping school right now. I don't think I'll ever go back.
