Hesediah, or David Dryden, started life in the middle of nowhere, a little county in UK called Northamptonshire. But being raised in a God-fearing household him taught him the importance of the Almighty and family. Surrounded by music, his mother's songs sung from the heart, his father's persistence with the guitar, his brother's and sister's every growing variety of music, which included the likes of the Beatles, Shirley Caesar, BeBe and CeCe Winans, Paul McCartney amongst many others, and inspired by one of the greatest poets, King David, a seed was planted in his heart for deeper language of the soul, expressed by song and poetry.
Throughout his life, David had the opportunity to learn the basics of different musical instruments, starting with the simple recorder, and then the violin, and then even the tuba. But through his father, he gained more of a passion for playing the guitar, learning the rudiments of various parts of different styles such as jazz, blues and classical. And through his sister, he transferred his growing guitar skills onto the piano. And through his brother's natural bass-guitar skills and his ear for analysing songs, David learnt the important lesson of listening to and analysing music. Being in a small church, David used those skills to accompany the people's worship, and gained experience playing his favourite instruments.
Seeing something more to life than just what is on the surface, and struggling with the storms in his life, David saw the need to reach out for the Creator in his teen years. And at the age of 17, those inner struggles and yearnings took the form of songs. As his life changed from then on, he always had a song of his own with him which told of his struggle, and his knowledge of the ever-presence of the Almighty.
For a short time, David worked with gifted producer, Matt Stedeford, who produced two of his songs, "Who I am" and "Softly" (see www.stedeford.com). He had this to say about David:
David Dryden is a soul songwriter. His songs, often reflective by nature, are works written by someone with a natural talent for soul songwriting. David is a capable pianist. As a singer-songwriter, David Dryden is multitalented and is able to compose naturally both musically and lyrically.
"David is a great guy- he seems completely unnaffected by his obvious talent, and his song writing is beautiful and professional." - MattIn 2005, David gained a life-partner in his wife, Nicola, whose depth of character and perception, and all-round beauty, still helps develop his character and perception of music.
Having written songs for over 10 years, David, now a non-Jewish adherent to the God of Israel (a non-christian), now feels the need to share with others his gift. Not boasting himself as the best of anything, but just wanting to make a difference in an individual's life, he opens his once-closed book of songs. His music is open for anyone who will listen.
