About Me

The aim of this space is to give air to some of the works I've been involved in composing over the years; these will include self-penned ideas and collaborations with some folk who also dwell on myspace.com. The tracks you hear on here are a mixture of honed improvs and raw jams. The ryhthmic pieces feature Phildas on drums and me on CZ5000 through a bass amp - punchy! These particular recordings hark back to 1993/4 when we first met. These pieces we aim to record in studio conditions at some point, but given our current situations that will have to wait! The others are more recent pieces. All will be changed from time to time to overcome the restriction of four tracks at a time!I myself have been composing since the early 90's, although became involved in the tribute band scene, co-founding Invisible Touch. It proved an easier way to play music, however, the full-time occupation of being involved in a tribute meant that ultimately I wasn't being challenged enough creatively and so it came to pass that in 2002, I decided to move on. It's been a lean spell since, with attemps at various projects proving troublesome and whilst family concerns mean that there are no immediate plans to return to composing, there is a feeling that I am heading back towards this in the coming couple of years or so. In the meantime, there is a small boy to raise and a new home to be found and also some of my favourite original stuff to let loose on an unwitting audience! Thanks for listening, make any comments as plain as you like, I'm proud of everything that appears here, so am open to all opinions! In all cases, I have left details about each track in the lyrics field - happy listening!Oh, and a bit about the name, D-Rift, no big deal about it, it's just a banner under which I can air many different pieces and will undoubtedly be used in some form or another in future releases. What's in a name after all!

A favourite lyric from Joni Mitchell:

Joni Mitchell - The Dawntreader Lyrics
Peridots and periwinkle blue medallions
Gilded galleons spilled across the ocean floor
Treasure somewhere in the sea and he will find where
Never mind their questions theres no answer for
The roll of the harbor wake
The songs that the rigging makes
The taste of the spray he takes
And he learns to give
He aches and he learns to live
He stakes all his silver
On a promise to be free
Mermaids live in colonies
All his seadreams come to me
City satins left at home I will not need them
I believe him when he tells of loving me
Something truthful in the sea your lies will find you
Leave behind your streets he said and come to me
Come down from the neon nights
Come down from the tourist sights
Run down till the rain delights you
You do not hide
Sunlight will renew your pride
Skin white by skin golden
Like a promise to be free
Dolphins playing in the sea
All his seadreams come to me
Seabird I have seen you fly above the pilings
I am smiling at your circles in the air
I will come and sit by you while he lies sleeping
Fold your fleet wings I have brought some dreams to share
A dream that you love someone
A dream that the wars are done
A dream that you tell no one but the grey sea
Theyll say that youre crazy
And a dream of a baby
Like a promise to be free
Children laughing out to sea
All his seadreams come to me
