Been DJin 4 25 yrs now and hope to continue 4 as long as the people want to hear me!!... check out some of my reviews.. 'DJing since the late 70's, he joined forces with reggae singer John McLean in 1980 to form Black Star Liner Sound System. A chance meeting in 1982 with then fledgling Great Tribulation brothers Joey and Norman, led to a partnership that was to take London clubland by storm. Back in 1980, Joey and Norman's Good Times sound system were one of the first sound systems ever to own and introduce coveted Technics turntbls to Carnival. This enabled the young Rudy to hone his djing skills and master the nascent art of mixing and scratching - being one of the first UK dj's ever to do so. Since those early days, he now presents an R&B/Hip-hop show on HOTSTREAM.COM and REGGAEOLOGY on Thursdays on JUICE 102.5.He has also compiled & mixed 3 DANCEHALL albums for the UK based MAXIMUM SOUNDS for both the Japanese & French market of which,all have been TOP 10 sellers. He has also performed successful DJ tours of Europe, the US and the Carribean.(TIME OUT MAG).. Of late, Rudy has become a permanent fixture at Good Times parties. His sets were very well received at this year's Carnival. He has been travelling quite a lot and has just returned from successful trips djing for corporate companies such as, HILTON,NINTENDO,BUENA VISTA FILMS, GAP, G-STAR and being asked to DJ for the Denzel Washington film 'DEJA VU' post-party as well as (ST LUCIA JAZZ FESTIVAL 2007, BARBADOS, REGGAEFEST 2007 GERMANY, THE ANTIGUA JAM with trips planned for ,CUBA,ATLANTA & THAILAND early next year) 'Crimminaly underated', Rudy is one of the most versatile djs around and as he say's ' Ive seen loads of DJs come, have their 5 mins of fame,then crash but the key, as with most talents in life is longevity. The race is not for the swift!!' He has picked up two awards this year for his services to the industry and is respected highly for his knowledge,musical wealth (35,000 vinyl and counting)and ability to move any crowd,anytime,anywhere. ' Lots of so-called djs are scared quite litteraly to even start a dance because they dont know what to play. Then you have the ones who try to play out all the hits before you hit the 'CDJs' and lastly some even have the gaul to ask you not to play certain 'big' tunes and save them?!! Crazy!! My reckon is, dont EVER watch another dj and what he does, create your own vibe and style. That is what will make you stand out from the rest. Back in the day djs & sounds were 'special'because they each had their own identity. Now,EVERYBODY's a dj, playin the same music and thats why a lot of people are fed up with the raves out there. Nobody, wants to play new songs, they let the crowd 'dictate' the dance to them so you end up hearing the same reptitive songs. Some djs wont like what i just said but you know what they say about the truth dont you?' Whilst doing my research on the UKs 'best kept secret', the one common denominator that i heard was 'Rudy's a great all-round dj'. He does'nt specialise in any one genre but all genre's as can be seen and heard in the varied amount of work that he does both homeland & internationally.(DJ mag review Nov 2006) .. As well as all this, Rudy is also a coveted 7 talented 'multi-musician' with skills in bass & rhythm guitar,keyboards & drums. 'That all started when i was at sunday school. Myself,John(McClean)& his brother Fred used to try and play the hymns with a reggae beat. (laugh) They were NEVER happy & not impressed! It was at that time we started the sound then we decided to make our own 'special' called 'Starliner'. We used to get so many requests from people sayin it was that good, we decided to release it and boy were we surprised. It got to No5 in the Black (Echoes) chart which was a VERY big thing them days.The rest they say, is history. At present, obviously the djing has taken precedant over instruments but im still active & playin. namely with STINGRAY records in london. Various artists such as FREDDY McGREGOR, LUKIE D, MORGANS HERITAGE, PETER HUNNINGALE..etc have sang on rhythms that ive played on. Watch out for not only reggae works from myself. There will be a full repatoire of stuff that will be forthcoming.TWINSPIN PRODUCTIONS and I can let you know that it WILL be definitely quality music!!
