About Me

Electric guitarist / music producer / arranger /composer I got my first guitar when I was 12 (long time ago) and I have been playing ever since. I studied 2 semesters at Berklee College of Music and graduated as a professional electric guitarist from Musicians Institute of Technology in 1991.I have played in several bands in Mexico City and have been active in the Mexican music scene. Among those bands it’s fair to mention a few: Juguete Rabioso (Rock), Las Lagartijas Velcro (T.V. Surf & Spy music), Las Hormigas (Rock with a feminine twist), ACME (Rock & Pop covers), Therremoto (Reggae). I also get called to sit in with different acts; from Jazz standards to experimental stuff. I’ve done tons of studio recording (for artists, groups, jingles) and have produced, composed and recorded several little spots for radio and T.V. ( Coca cola, Klinvet, Telcel, Canal 9, Univision..etc.). I have also scored the music for a couple of short films and some university documentaries. I produce relaxation music as well and have acted as an arranger, guitarist, engineer and composer for several projects in the Mexico City area. My current band is Beautiful Monster; I’m the music composer, guitarist, arranger, producer and overall director (much to my dislike I also get to act as the manager. Whoopeee!!!). I want to meet other musicians, producers and talented people in general. I offer services in music composition and production for all kinds of media, private guitar instruction and electric guitar performance for studio and live acts. About the songs: Chemistry: This beautiful little melody came to me out of misguided inspiration. It’s based on a three syllable word and I stole the rhythmic idea from Vladimir Nabokov when he wrote: “The tip of my tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap at three on the teeth, lo-lee-ta.” You can hear this three syllable motif throughout the first two verses and the chorus goes into it with a turnaround. The purpose of this tune is now clear: a decorative piece that can work well as a guitar showcase. The chimey open strings and harmonics give it its sugary-sweet character. Malibu 78: Written by Las Lagartijas Velcro’s keyboard player, J.V.. I like to think that he wrote the tremolo guitar line for me. It sounds like a regular surf tune, but nailing the eight notes that occur on the upbeats at the end of the main theme took some practicing. The organ solo is quite bitchin’ and you can say it’s our tribute to our favorite surf bands (los straightjackets for one). Like that Good Girl: This is the original version of what later became Beautiful Monster’s “To get away”. A sexually explicit Rock pastiche made with samples of several adult movies and one unsuspecting girlfriend. The clean guitar solo offers an interesting contrast to the distorted rhythm. Editing the vocals (or vocal inflections?) took me a while but what is really impressive was the amount of Kleenex I consumed shaping this particular piece. Con el cinturon (with the belt): Recorded live into a 4 track machine with my friend John Poodle (he does the percussion and the vocals). The verse goes into an 11/4 time signature which was completely spontaneous. Scary and disturbing, we like it.
