About Me

Time for an update I think. I'm still Lauren, and I'm still a Literature student, though I'm also a proper Philosophy student now. If you still know me, you can still tell. I still probably like books a little more than is socially acceptable, and, like a reptile, I'm not happy unless it's warm. I'm still skint, still irrepressible, usually still hungry, still very sarcastic, still honest and I still never lie, and I still enjoy nothing more than being with my friends. Unfortunately I just decided to fuck off to uni so they're a little scattered and far between.
So, uni. It's fucking expensive. I go to Southampton, where it's meant to be nice and warm and I'm studying English and Philosophy. I live in a house with 5 fantastic people and we have many excellent adventures. I have a hilariously small amount of lectures to go to so I'm usually in bed, reading, or at the gym, pretending to get fitter.
I play a slightly obscure sport called Ultimate Frisbee, which is in my opinion the greatest invention since electricity. I used to be a horrendously lazy and unsporty person but this sport has actually put me in shape and made me a lot active and healthier. There are many great things about this little known 7 a-side non-contact disc sport, but I could literally go on for hours, so I'll stop. So there.
Things I generally like or am rather into or interested in would include: human rights, animal rights, being ridiculously enthusiastic, pacificism, equal rights, and on a less serious note, cheese, sunshine, poetry, kung fu movies and drum & bass.
Things I'm not too fond of (usually means 'absolutely despise') would include: racism, nationalism, sexism, homophobia, religious or cultural intolerance, people being mean to animals, apathy, mushrooms, and having to do lots of washing up.
I'm the kind of person who usually has an interest or something to say on most subjects. However, I'm also very aware of the fact that I'm only 18 years old, and therefore, contrary to popular belief, I don't know everything and I'm very willing to give a fair listen to other people's ideas, opinion and idealogies. I'm pretty friendly and open-minded about the majority of things - life is far too short not to take every opportunity.

My Interests

- Interesting things, sarcasm, running jokes and dirty humour
- Philosophy, art in all its forms- literature, music, live music, film, graffiti & street art
- Summer, the coast & the beach
- Lie-ins, sleeping, then being full of energy
- Speaking in accents when I’m Mozart & Liszt
- Running and cycling 'til my legs burn!
Playing Ultimate.

I'd like to meet:

I want this entire tent, contents and all, in my back garden, ta. Quality.

Movies:

..My love of books transcends the celluloid barrier- I'm really one for storytelling. I like a lot of styles of film as long as they have some intelligence or intensity to them: dramas, character studies, thrillers, horrors, mafia and martial arts, the odd comedy or epic, and Brit-flicks. And, I have to admit it, pretty much anything with zombies in it. (It just makes for good viewing. I could probaly recite the script of Shaun of the Dead if you asked me to.)

Directors I’m keen on include Danny Boyle, Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, Sergio Leone, Michael Mann, Hayao Miyazaki, Sophia Coppola, Quentin Tarantino, George A. Romero, Edgar Wright, Guy Ritchie, Robert Rodriguez, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Peter Jackson and Tim Burton.

Television:

I try not to watch TV - better things to do - but I like a fair few series...
24
Lost
Blackadder
Spaced
The Simpsons
Futurama
Family Guy
American Dad

Books:

..I'm always losing myself in books, I don't give a toss about the old 'books are for nerds' gag.

Some of my favourite writers would include Sylvia Plath, Stephen King, Douglas Coupland, Margaret Atwood, Anthony Burgess and John Le Carre, but to be honest I'm constantly reading and devouring new books and authors so I find it hard to have a single favourite.

I also really like playwrights, some of the best ones I’ve read recently being Patrick Marber’s Closer and Tennesse Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire. Plus, anything by Arthur Miller, what a genius. I'm a huge Shakespeare fan- I'm a literature student, I did warn you!..

Heroes:

..There isn't one specific individual I can really call a 'hero' - I'm not aspiring to be anyone other than someone I'm proud of - but I've got shed-loads of respect for a number of artists and thinkers who work I think has made a real difference. But I will never dogmatise on what one person or small group of people has to say. Life is about making your own choices and creating your own path, and the key to this is being open-minded and free-thinking.

A lot of the people I have met have influenced, inspired and delighted me, and I'd like to meet more.
