Hardcore dancing (or hXc Dancing) is a type of dancing when hardcore or punk music is played. The dance consist of the flailing of the legs and arms as though fighting the air. Hardcore dancing has been branded as "gay" moshing by metal heads. There have been numerous accounts in which at a concert a person deliberately tried to hurt the person doing hardcore dancing because of their dislike of such mosh. Many videos on Youtube can be found on hardcore dancing and the reaction of metal heads to such form of moshing.The practice grew out of the East Coast United States hardcore scene, especially the New Jersey hardcore, New York hardcore and Boston hardcore scenes. Besides the usual mosh pit routine of pogoing and crashing into each other, participants started floor-punching to the beat when a slower, more groovy riff was being played. This style of dancing was common in the late 1990s.
