I was was born in Buffalo, N.Y. Holla! James Johnson is my birth name but muthafuckas call me RICK JAMES. I ran away from home to join the fucking Naval Reserves, then I ran away from the Navy to Toronto, where I played bass in several shit ass bands.
I was first signed to Motown as a member of the Mynah Birds rock group, with future Buffalo Springfield members Neil Young and Bruce Palmer, and with Goldy McJohn, later of Steppenwolf, and I was better looking and a better musician than all of those bitches. The god damn recordings were never released. I later re-signed with Motown as an individual writer and producer of my own songs. Believe it bitch!
In the 1970's and 1980's, I had many top ten R&B hits and top forty pop hits including: "You and I," "Mary Jane," "Bustin' Out," and my best known, "Super Freak." Many of my songs from my 20 albums were included in mutha fuckin movie soundtracks including Beverly Hills Cop.
I single handedly revived The Temptations career and produced recordings by Teena Marie and the Mary Jane Girls. I decided to leave Motown for the Reprise label with my 1988 Wonderful album. My last album Urban Rapsody was released on Private I Records, a Mercury-distributed partnership with veteran promoter Joe Isgro. The Private I deal gave me ownership of my masters and publishing rights for the first time in my career. Hell yah bitches.
Many rappers enjoy using variations of the themes of my hits. In 1990, that talentless McHammer scored a massive hit with "U Can't Touch This," which consisted of his rap over the instrumental track of "Super Freak." Bitches can't come up with they own shit so they cuff my beats.
You best recognize my trademark Jheri curl bitches, I love crack cocaine, so what if i got major and health problems, such as being a diabetic and having a pacemaker. I'm still a handsome mutha fucka.
Here's some of my accomplishments bitches!
In 1991 I got high, got mad, tied up a woman, and burned her with hot crack pipe.
In 1992 I got high, tied up a woman, beat her for 12 hours.
In 1994 The woman whose ass I pummeled for half a day won 2 million bucks in a civil suit...damn hos.
In 1995 I was sentenced to more than two years at Folsom State Prison.
In 1996 I was released from Folsom State Prison. That's right you can't keep a brutha down bitch!
In 1997 I suffered a stroke while performing at Denver's Mammoth Events Center, ending a comeback tour. God damn that sucked.
In 1998 I underwent hip replacement surgery.
In 2002 Another woman claimed I sexually assaulted her, and I did!
In June 2004 there were negotiations to acquire the film rights to my nearly completed autobiography, "Memoirs of a Super Freak." David Chappelle was in early talks to star in the feature film adaptation of my memoirs for Paramount Pictures.
