About Me

Some of my earliest memories are associated with pop songs from the late sixties and early seventies. Those songs still remind me of specific times and places. Those images are still vivid and welcome in my mind. I have always been a fan of all kinds of music, and making music has become a way of life for me.I grew up in Savannah, Georgia, and I remember hearing songs from Woody Guthrie, John Denver, and Bob Dylan being played on a turntable by our “hippie” music teacher at Juliette Low Elementary school. I had no idea at the time, but those songs would have a great influence on my life for many years to come. My gospel roots were established in the church choir, in the deep south, on Sundays, and my harmony choices were further developed by two years of barbershop quartet adventures in high school. In my twenties, by listening to many artists such as Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Donovan, The Grateful Dead, Paul Simon, The Moody Blues and on and on..., I learned more about the art of song writing. By learning many of those songs, I learned how to play and perform. In the mid eighties I started performing around the Athens, Atlanta (GA) area at open mic nights and frat parties. In the mid nineties I toured the east coast with a band, and opened shows for quite a few national and international acts, including The Neville Brothers, Matthew Sweet, Leon Russell and Jefferson Starship.I have been involved in a few publishing projects in both movie and cable television. The song “Carolina” was featured in a motion picture called “Blue Ridge Fall.” Clips from my catalog were used in a WB Network series called “Nick Freno, Licensed Teacher.” I have had tracks included on compilation CDs such as Chicago’s Aware, and Atlanta based 99X’s “Got Live(If you want it).” I have been featured on Britain’s “Radio Caroline” and on Georgia Public Radio’s “Song Smiths.” Several tracks from my catalog have been featured on Garageband.com. I worked with an internet label called Lost Cat Records for four years. I released 4 CDs on the Lost Cat Records label. In 2006 I finished recording a new CD called “out of sight, out of mind” and released the CD independently. The CD is available exclusively through my SNOCAP store and my web site at www.nathansheppard.net.The new CD(2007), "Long Gone," is finished and available through the SNOCAP Store. Thanks, and best wishes, Nathan
