Genetic Drift is a four piece metal band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Coming together on New Years Eve 2004 at a party in guitarist Greg Russo’s basement, Russo, along with vocalist Erik Sibils, bass player Mike Chestnut, and drummer Marco Edwards freestyle jammed in front of other party goers. Encouraged by the reactions and complements of those in attendance, Genetic Drift was formed.
Genetic Drift’s sound has been described as combustion of fierce passion reminiscent of bands like Pantera, or Rage Against the Machine blended with the hard hitting anthems from modern bands like Lamb of God or Chimaira with a dash of Clutch-esque groove.
By the summer of 2005, Genetic Drift had released their EP “Remove Your Eyes†and was ready to show Grand Rapids and the rest of Michigan the product of its members diverse styles blended into a musical set that was sure to impress. Starting with small local showcases in Grand Rapids, they stirred up a buzz with unsuspecting concert goers and other local bands they shared the stage with. Everyone wanted to see the feverish, alcohol fueled, maniacal show Genetic Drift displayed no matter the size or complexion of the crowd.
Soon enough Genetic Drift was sharing the stage with distinguished Grand Rapids bands like Dissonant, Kamilla, and The Dead Last as well as national touring bands like Three Inches of Blood, Byzantine, Demiricous, Five Bolt Main, Gizmachi, and Halo of Locusts. After countless shows from Traverse City to Indiana, and everywhere in between, it was only a matter of time before they found themselves among the most recognizable names in west Michigan. After the successful release of their first full length album “Decide For Us All†in September of 2006, Genetic Drift has become a staple of the Carnival of Chaos music festival, made it to the 2007 KLQ Heavyweight Battle of the Bands Finals, and can be heard on the KLQ Metal show.
Genetic Drift’s sound and live show can captivate the attention of fans who like to sit back and enjoy the show from a distance, but provides the frenzy for the ferocious. They can display affable grooves and insatiable bloodlust within seconds of each other, giving everyone something to get into.
