How-to's, Technical articles, Etc.
The SOHC (Single Overhead Cam) Owner's club site If you can't figure out how to do it from here, you're hopeless. Has everything from technical articles and mechanical how-to's to bikes and parts for sale.
The Motorcycle Project Tons of info on older bikes, including several in-depth articles on engine concepts (i.e. the often maddening system of how carburetors work at different engine speeds and throttle positions). Also has How-to repair guides with photos.
Salocal
Another, more abbreviated site about SOHC's with repair guides and photos.
Old Man Honda A Site about old Honda's that was put up by a guy who was in the mechanic business for years. Has part codes and general tune up info.
Parts Resources
Hondatown Located in Southeast Minneapolis, this family owned Honda dealership and service spot still stocks tons of parts for old Honda's. If they can't get it, they'll order it for you. Plus the old-timers know just about everything when it comes to the SOHC bikes.
Old Bike Barn This online retailer has damn near everything you need to get and keep your old bike going--including parts for old Suzuki's, Kawasaki's, and Yamaha's.
Honda Keys He carries New Old Stock Honda keys for all sorts of bikes. Plus, they're factory cut, not copies from the pattern. He even has the often impossible to find T-series keys.
Alfa Haven A kind of weird conglomerate of used and NOS Japanese bike parts mixed w/ vintage military vehicles and classic car parts. Located in Wisconsin.
Omar's Rearsets This fellow sells bolt-on rearsets for a bunch of vintage bikes. Best of all, they are only about 300 a set AND he works out of Minnetonka. He's got adjustable clubmans and some dirt track stuff too.
M3 Racing You want true vintage racing? These guys build winning vintage race bikes. They cost a pretty penny, but they're the place for wild cams, big bore kits, and all that stuff. Did I mention they're in Minnesota?
Safety and Gear (Helmets, Leathers, etc.)
Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Foundation If you've never taken a class from them, DO IT NOW! I don't care how long you've been riding. It's also the right way to go to get your license, and many local retailers have discounts for those who have completed the class. There are also classes for experienced riders.
The Snell Memorial Foundation The Snell Foundation provides the most stringent testing in the US for motorcycle (and many other) helmets. They include up-to-date lists of all helmets that have passed the Snell certification.
The Motorcycle Leather Exchange The best place to go for new, used, and closeout leathers and other safety gear. I got my Vanson Jacket here for $150.00 less than retail and it was NEW with the original warranty. Go NOW!
General Cafe Racer Sites
Skip's Brit Bikes Located in Isanti, MN, this dealership has tons of vintage bikes, mostly bsa's, Nortons, Triumphs, etc. They range from Project bikes to fully restored. Very reasonable prices. And he's got a ton of parts to keep these things running.
Carpy Carpy came from across the pond and is the word in Cafe Bikes. Located in California.
Low Riders by Summers Not technically a cafe site, but this guy has been turning vintage bikes into crazy lowriders for years. Did I mention he's in South Minneapolis? Check it out.
Minneapolis Motorcycle Clubs
The West Bank Motorcycle Club Some of the coolest people around to ride with. They ride twice a week during the season and usually have a huge turnout. I try to go with them as often as possible. Plus the older guys (the club was started in 1969 I think) love to see our vintage bikes still making these rides. Tons of links for local riders and some discounts for members through local sponsors.
The Moto Mutz What can you say? They like to ride and then they like to party. Look them up.
