07 is the year for Best Out and Mr.Jelk$ is a strong force to that movement. With his slick delivery and creative punchlines, he has created a sufficient fan base for him and his group that spreads from CT to even a few overseas countries, and has caught the atention of some of the games top DJ's such as: Big Mike, DJ EFN, DJ Envy, and DJ White Owl. Being placed on numerous mixtapes and doing a number of collaborations with hip-hop, R&B, and even rock artist, he has became a fan favorite! Born Darryl L. Jelks Jr. on July 27th, 1984 and raised in Connecticut, Jelk$ was quickly drawn into the rap game by the revolutionary lyrics of LL Cool J, the lyrical complexity of hip-hop great Rakim, the smoothness of Kool Moe Dee, and the swagger of the legendary hip-hop group, Run DMC. With the inspiration of these artist eating him alive, Jelk$ began to sharpen his freestyle skills throughout his teenage years, but didn't begin to take rap seriously until it was brought to his atention by Best Out's founder and fellow rapper, Best H. "H made believe that it was real", Jelk$ stated with a slight chuckle. "He told me he had a vision that me, him, and a few other friends of ours could be an influence to the hip hop world and become a powrful movement'. Jelk$ didn't take him that serious but another influence that made him realize that it could happen were his cousins from Virginia. "We used to play around freestyling and recording songs using a microphone that was actually built in the computer! Way before the pro tools days". And once him and H formed the alliance that is now known as Best Out, he never looked back. He and his Best Out crew have just completed their 3rd mixtape since the group formed in late 2005 and they've been rolling since. From touring and doing shows in Connecticut down to Atlanta, to shooting 2 videos within a 2-month span, he barely gets any rest. Not to mention Best Out has an entertainment side, which is headed by Gary Jones, which throws parties throughout the Connecticut region expanding their buzz. Be on the lookout this year for Jelk$ and the Best Out crew as they show no sign of slowing up.
