I am here for Friends

About Me

the heart is such a secret thing. but for the most part, i'm just wild mood swings and bedroom dancing.
"i am an elephant, you are not an elephant." turns out that living well is amazing yes. who knew?! so now i want to find life-affirming art--i didn't for a long time. (this can include that which highlights the fragility and tenuous nature of living--that is good, fine even. but not this, this. necrophilic amnesiac art. no more; i refuse.)

pomosexual academic groupie and above all, dork (not nerd; nerdiness implies technical aptitude/profiency...no sir, just the awkwardness, please!).i am so east-coast it's not funny. i don't try to be, but i know that i am.
when i'm upset my eyes turn a shade or two lighter than normal. when i'm sad i find it hard to speak. when i laugh it's more of a gasp than anything.
i prefer the italian approach to cooking (simple because the ingredients are so good and so fresh they don't need much coddling) over the french one (an infinite series of delicate manipulations--pretty to think of, but i'm too clumsy for that). often, the order and arrangement of things matter to me as much as the content.
i'm a serial sneezer; my "achoo"s are never solitary. i look forward to sleep.
oh, and this is important: i ganked this from my old friendster profile completely, seeing as friendster's dead and i'm quite lazy. mm.

My Interests

bedroom dancing, oblivion. ...sitting in movie theaters alone, sleep, food/nourishment, historiography, french colombard, algebra, pearls, forests, lapsang souchoung, my cat, the sea, language, memory, love letters, shyness, libertines, white lights, experimental economics, rollerblading around town at dusk, collecting teapots, driving alone in the dead of night, friendly flirting, critical theory, taking walks, falling on my ass all the time, unrequited everything, spain, 1920s, home, hummingbirds, breakfasting, 1940s, storms, androgyny, consummation, train rides, artful everydays, growing up, the mental and emotional window-dressing involved in seduction/allure, escape artists, paper

I'd like to meet:

a fat cat (or two!) who just doesn't give a damn. secret writers with elaborate catholic guilt. people interested in diner- rather than pub- crawling. dyed in the wool bluestocking feminists. someone to play toy instruments with. someone to collaborate with on children's picture books (hi Bryce). scrabble partners. fellow kingdom of loathing addicts. people to go on twilight picnics or urban hikes with. people who use their hands. house painters. someone who likes involved, feisty, colorful correspondence. andrew kenny. natalie angier. craig thompson. wendy shanker. the lyricist from s prcss. eric bachmann (again). jonathan richman. steve burns. rob pollard. dorks. someone to enjoy tea with at 4 in the afternoon. sad ghosts. a beautiful writer who doesn't act the part.

really? i'd like to have dinner parties and split pitchers of beer and laugh my ass off and swap mix tapes and wander around and visit libraries and just have some good old-fashioned conversation with people near and far. i'm crazy shy but always like making new acquaintances/friends, so feel free to say hi.

Music:

(whoever did the art direction for elephant shoe-era arab strap is my hero. Heather's always talking about those times when you look at someone's art and recognize it instantly as being like all the secret nebulous weird stuff in your head aesthetically. that recognition? i get it when i watch the "cherubs" video, in every sense, and i reeeeally wish they'd make a big poster of the cover of that album:

...yeah!)
