About me. Well, I think I can sum this up with two cartoons: "Peanuts" and "The Far Side." I have the imagination of Snoopy, the goodwill of Linus, (sometimes) the dumb luck of Charlie Brown and I live in the crazy, dark humor, silly world of "The Far Side." It's a good life.
I (kinda) work two jobs and write short stories and poems. I also dabble in screenplays and try to jot down anything that pops in my head. Working on a novel. I really dig history.
I like to learn something new everyday. I'm not talking just about facts and figures, but also about the human condition. I'm someone who likes to understand why things happen. I'm also learning Spanish from the little elven folk who live under my desk.
Influences on my writing include Raymond Carver, Stephen King, Charles Buckowski, Raymond Chandler, Lyle Lovett, Tom Waits, Robert Earl Keen Jr., Patty Griffin, Hemingway, John Irving, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Lawrence Kasdan, and folks in my everyday life. I guess that about covers it.
I also like being involved in the local film community. It's fun and exciting to know that you've helped create something with a group of people who were once strangers.
Here are some good songs:

Music:

Tom Waits. Robert Earl Keen. Lyle Lovett. Johnny Cash and a score of other artists.

Tom Waits (above)
I enjoy listening and writing to soundtracks. The soundtrack to "State and Main" is one of my favorites.
Screaming and yelling Tom Waits' songs in the shower is the most fun. It's tearing up my voice, though. I really feel it in the mornings. Oddly enough, that's when I sound really good screaming and yelling Tom Waits' songs in the shower. I sound just like him.

Movies:

alabama indie moviemakers

What I love in a movie: STORY. A story told with WORDS. A story told with words that are enhanced by honest ACTING. A story told with words that are enhanced by honest acting and creative CINEMATOGRAPHY.

Television:

There's a bomb on my desk. A real bomb. It's not live, there's no explosives in it. But the shell sits all rusty on my desk. It's old. Under the rust is faded blue paint. It's about two feet long and ...
