THE MIXTAPE MASTER.....

About Me

The kind of music I listened to when i was growing up was my mums and older family's type of music and that is the kind of music production that i fall back on now for inspiration. Great individuals that for me didn't just make music, they changed music. People like Roy Ayers, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Barry White and through studying, listened to and learned from David Axelrod Miles Davis, Bob James, Dave Mathews, Donald Byrd, Theolonus Monk and too many to mention. Great individuals that taught me compositions and introduced me to sounds that send a shiver every time. The producers I'm feeling (no homo!) and have alot of respect for what they have done and are doing are also great individuals like JAY DILLA rest in peace (you taught me so much about music and I still keep the flame burning.), Marley Marl, Prince Paul, Easy Moe B, Dre, Alchemist, Just Blaze, Swiss Beats, Talib Qweli, Wookie, Kanye West, Neptunes, 9th wonder, RZA, Pete Rock, Trackmasters, Salaam Remi, DJ Premier, Havoc, (I know I've forgotten some!). Whenever i was around music, I felt a part of it and would pick up any instrument I could when given the chance The first ever music program i used was Fruityloops and I've always stuck to it, I used Cubase and Logic for a while but prefer Fruityloops (and find easier). I was on it for the first time and within a month of studying it, I made my first ever instrumental. I remember I called it 'ShowTime' and it was a hip-hop garage fusion and obviously, I thought it was a number one with the right rapper. I played it to my boys at my house and they heard it and nearly pissed themselves laughing. I think i remember my cousin saying "I can't lie cuz, this is the whackest track I've heard this year"..... Back to fruityloops and I didn't play anyone any beats for the next 3 years..... seriously!. That time was spending studying music like a drug, every day and night experimenting with different sounds, different compositions trying to get the snare right or the bass not to blow the speakers (I like bass!) and so many other thing to do with music. I always experiment and was working in a studio in with the co-producer of One of TY's albums on a track called 'Stopclock'. The track was finished and i played it to my cousin in his car and he went crazy with excitement. I played it to a few more people that same night and the response was the same. One of those people was a rapper who had just secured an album deal with Virgin. At that time UK garage was a very big deal and he said he wanted to use that beat for his album along with another titled 'Stay Blessed'. He had alot of heat and the album got released with serious weight behind it. T.V, Major distribution, posters etc but because of various reasons, it never worked out. For that long period of time dealing with and being exposed to more record company politrics, I realised that this music biz ain't easy and if you treat it like a hobby and put 50% of your time into it, you get 50% back, this is not a day job!. I went into overdrive, researching the business like my life depended on it....marketing, distribution, publishing, music law etc. As a producer, i could have 10,000 banging instrumentals but without the business side being straight, it doesn't count for shit. My life is a busy one dealing with all the other music related stuff like distribution, club promotions and Marketing as well as music production. I continue to keep the beats banging!AN UNKNOWN KNOWN The night Midas was born, all speakers within a 900 mile radius exploded!!!!
