A sandwich ia a sandwich, but a MANWITCH is a mutherfuckin' MEAL!!!Four women strong, driving crowds wild is a gimme for ManWitch, who earned their spurs in Mardi Gras parades. The girls first rocked out rolling down St. Charles Avenue in Pink Slip, the legendary all grrrl parade band founded by mother superior Sue Ford. Drummer Michelle Lacayo, lead guitarist Laurie Shefsky, and bassist Rachelle O' Brien have all logged countless hours on the Pink Slip float in Muses, Tucks, and Thoth playing with a revolving cast of sister Slippers who convene for Carnival each year. But once a year wasn't enough for Lacayo. Manwitch was formed and the band lost no time forging it's own distinctive sound.
ManWitch was hit hard by Katrina, but you can't keep a good women down, let alone four of them, and out of loss came opportunity. Not only did the band receive replacement gear from Music Rising, the Katrina relief program founded by U2's the Edge and Gibson Guitars. ManWitch was selected for a Frantic Films documentary slated to air on VH1 and showcase at the Sundance Film Festival, Jan. 2007.
The Band's been recording tracks in the temporary make-shift Jimmy Ford Clinic, finishing what they started before the storm. The single "Leather Jacket" can be heard on myspace.com/MANWITCH.
