About Me

My name is Torin Degnats, I was born and raised amid the soulful sounds of Atlanta, GA. I attended the University of Miami on a music scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree in Studio Music and Jazz Drum-set with a minor in English. Apart from my academic opportunities and commitments at UM, while in Miami I was lucky enough to record at multiple professional studios and to tour the East Coast. Studying with world-class professors helped fuel a deep appreciation and interest in a variety of styles: modern Jazz, traditional big-band, rock/pop, hip-hop, afro Cuban, avant-garde, post-bop, fusion… In particular, studying under and working with great composers and arrangers like Ronnie Miller and Ray Sanchez helped me explore my voice as a music writer.

Soon after graduation I relocated back to Atlanta. Here I have been blessed to find a great group of musicians and people to surround myself with as I continue to develop my craft.

Currently I’m in the studio with the amazingly talented Elli Perry, working on her debut album with producer Danny Howes (Tender Idols, Tim Brantley). I am one half of the Elli Perry duo which has rapidly been gaining a great buzz and following in the Atlanta area. Danny Howes has picked up where my teachers at school left off, taking me under his wing for the past six months and allowing me to work with him at Red Door Productions.

I’ve also recently joined top Atlanta band “Rantings of Eva” and will begin playing shows with them starting in March. Rantings have two songs in the top 5 of alt rock (1 and 3) at garageband.com and their live performances have been featured twice in Southeast Performer. The debut album, produced by Jason Elgin of Synchromesh Studios (Wayne, Haste, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster)will be out soon.

Thankfully, I’ve had the opportunity to continue to work on my jazz playing with the some of the best young players in Atlanta, including the members of “The Flickering Candle” sax trio. I’ve also continued my real world education, sharing the stage with the likes of Sid Wolf, Grant Green Jr., and Ike Stubblefield.

Please feel free to contact me; a more complete bio and more musical examples can be made available upon request.

Peace.Torin
