"We don't procrastinate. How many times I gotta say to you? We ain't the type of cats that only talks about what they would do. For years...We've been payin' dues...staying true to myself...while I'm making moves. Thank God...I made it through. Won't stop...until I do what I came to do. Kick a flow and get the dough...that's just to name a few." -One Be LoWhat's good Planet Earth?! The name is Way Charles...real name no gimmicks. I've been on the MySpace music scene for only a couple of months now and in that short amount of time I quickly became Colorado's number one unsigned rap artist under MySpace's "Top Artists". I also broke into the National Top 100 in the hip-hop and rap genres. I also became Colorado's number one independently signed lyrical artist and even broke into the Top 10 in the lyrical category nation-wide. Thanks to everyone who made that happen. I truly appreciate all the love and support. My story goes like this...I'm just a 23 year-old Asian dude living life and going with the flow. I was born and raised here in beautiful Colorado (Not the typical breeding ground for hip-hop artists...I know...but I am what I am...like it or love it). I started freestyling around the age of 15 years old and I've been doing it ever since. Freestyling/writing songs was always fun to me...I never thought it would give me an opportunity to make a living from it. Which would be a dream come true. I'm currently attending the University of Colorado with a major in Biochemistry/Psychology and a minor in Business Administration. So you know a got a fully-functioning brain. I flirted with the idea of leaving school and pursuing a career in music but decided to stick around and get that degree. I ain't no fool...I stayed in school. My heritage is South Korean... and I'm first-generation to live in America. Life was a little rough in the beginning but I always had a roof over my head, clothes on my back and food on my table. So you will never hear me complain. I'm truly blessed. My inspiration comes from a plethora of different artists. A lot of my inspiration comes from 2Pac Shakur. Pac was so passionate about his music and his beliefs. He was never afraid to say what was on his mind. Not only was he a rapper but he was a prophet/poet as well. That's what separates him from most other rappers. On the flipside, I draw a lot of inspiration from Notorious B.I.G...Big could flow for days and made it look easy. I just wonder what the rap-game would be like today if those two were still around. Surprisingly, I also draw inspiration from Eminem. Mainly because he was able to change the "typical" image of what a rapper should look and sound like. He changed mainstream rap forever. If you haven't checked out his very first album titled "Infinite LP" then I suggest you do because it's different from his other albums. It's a sick album. Em knows how to joke around about things that most people take too seriously. "I get more ass than a toilet seat."...haha. Another main source of inspiration comes from a rapper named Big L...I remember the first time hearing his 95' freestyle and being blown away. Big L is one of the illest lyricists/freestylers of all-time and if you don't know who he is then you don't know ish about rap. "Ask Beavis...I get nothing Butt-Head" -Big L. I draw a lot inspiration from other artists as well such as Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Outkast, KRS-One, Rakim, Nas, Method Man, Redman, Busta Rhymes, One Be Lo, Pep Love, Saigon, Slug, Brother Ali, etc. I also draw inspiration from artists in other genres besides hip-hop like John Legend, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. It helps me come up with diverse songs and lyrics that isn't heard in today's hip-hop community. I love ALL music and my tastes are not limited to only hip-hop and rap. There's nothing better than winding down to some Jack Johnson or rocking out to some Red Hot Chili Peppers. Busting a move to some Justin Timberlake or keeping it classical with some John Coltrane. I feel that everyone should carry a certain level of respect for all musicians/artists (and for all people for that matter). Even if you don't like their music. Respect is the most important tenant to human interaction. Give respect and you'll get respect. Personally, there's nothing more gratifying to hear someone say "I don't usually listen to this type of music but I love your songs!"...just to get someone who doesn't typically listen to hip-hop to respect what you are doing is a good feeling. Don't hate...APPRECIATE. This may sound corny...but if only one person out there TRULY felt my music then I would be content. Thanks to everybody who's listened to the tracks and to everyone who has given me feedback. I appreciate it a great deal. Be sure to tell your friends about me and spread the good word. YOU have the power to make my music heard! Some last words of wisdom; positivity provokes peace. God is love. Keep it real.
