You
I love music. That's my passion (one of them at least). I listen to a lot of Hip-Hop. I am a DJ and I do a Hip-Hop radio show (The Hip-Hop Shop). I like a lotta other music too. I can't think of a genre that I haven't enjoyed on some level. Even if I don't enjoy a song or type of music I respect it. Music is powerful, it brings people together and serves a lot of different purposes. I like to listen to what other people like. I find a lot of new stuff that I like that way.
I don't like movies a lot. Comedy is good, but I don't really like the SNL movies or slapstick, fart humour. I watch a lotta documentaries. I like hood movies: Friday, 8 Mile, Juice, Training Day was good. Malcolm X makes me want to convert to Islam every time I watch it.
Television is the is the new opiate of the masses (look it up). If you are going to watch TV, try to learn something.
Anything by Noam Chomsky is worth reading being that he is the leading intelect in the world today, The Rose That Grew From Concrete is an excellent contemporary poetry book by Tupac Shakur, Maud Barlow has soom good political stuff from a Canadian perspective, Yes Yes Ya'll is an excellent compilation of interviews with the pioneers of Hip-Hop about the birth of the Hip-Hop culture. I read a lot of political stuff that would probably get me snuffed under the Patriot Act so I am not going to list them. If you are into religion then make sure you read the respective texts of your religion and others. Don't be affraid to interpret the word for yourself.
"All of my heroes did dope!" -Andre 3000I have a lot of heroes, too many to list. The fact is, most of the people I consider heroes were/are looked down on by society. Many of them died young, many of them were martyrs. There are a few that are still around and I cherish their lives and their gifts. I do my best to represent my heroes and what they stood for in my everyday life. Perhaps one day I will be a hero to someone else...
