About Me

ten29 ten29 has been many things over the past several years: an experimental, progish instrumental rock band, an outlet for nearly 100 demos, and currently a live dj set with a strong visual component.
since leveling off on the demos, sound design and jungle oriented tracks in 2002, ten29 has been dormant. as of 2008, i'm actively working on a proper record, to be marketed and licensed not to indie radio or clubs, but to places of commerce. think music for airports = literally.
i'm currently experimenting with audio / visual material as 'ten29 djset.' in this form, i usually do a themed mix, be it ambient, industrial, eclectic, rock, whatever... and match multiple video feeds that are manipulated in time with the music. i usually throw in some of my own tracks as well. the idea is to see which side wins... the aural or the visual? i'll let you know.
ten29 is a cooperative member of weownthesky, a creative media / record label mongrel with the best of intentions. then again, i named it, so you can't be too sure. an electronic music-oriented sub label is currently being developed for weownthesky, for launch in 2009.
some info on the current tracks
after the flood demo: this instrumental evolved from the outro of a song i co-wrote with the ashes called beautiful. the outro began as a brisk paced quasi ska/classical mongrel of a jam, but eventually became a musical statement on its own. i took improvised drum and piano parts, not initially intended to go together, and created an arrangement from them. this demo was initially being completed for the wiseblood ep, but i thought it was too experimental and strange for what was mainly a folk record. the vocals at the end are courtesy of stacey and natalie byrd of the bridges. the vocals were time stretched and make for a very satisfying musical hook. i'll finish this song eventually for the ten29 project.
empire fallout was my entré into drum n' bass. this is the long version. probably passé now, but it was pretty cool in 2001.
fuzzkill demo this demo was based on the first drum loop that i constructed back in 1995. i added the basses in 2001 after digging up the loop again. i added the synths later on and did a rough edit in 2003. i mixed it in 2006. interesting evolution of over ten years. kinda lo-fi and crappy.
dark bass is a loop i made from the end of another song that i slowed down, and then applied all kinds of crazy panned time stretched wholesome goodness.
dig is cuk is a drum program gone wrong... and then exploited. i then added some roland synth bass. i topped it off with some guitar disk-based-frippertronics / controlled feedback. the strings are from an old moog opus 3.
