In 2006, San Francisco's Æschere Auldwulf Beo’hyll and Aterix formed the band Nafregah. Prior to this band, Æschere and Aterix were in the black metal band Meduseld. When Meduseld broke up, the two decided to continue working together and started Nafregah.
Over the course of a few months, Nafregah fully formed with the addition of a 15 year old guitar prodigy Ryan and ex bass player Pete Lester. Together Aterix and Ryan wrote the all the music with Archaic Scot's Gaelic Rune Songs written and sung by Æschere. Together, they stayed near the vein of early black metal with an emphasis on melodies. One year from forming, Nafregah released their first CD "Fall 2007 EP".
Nafregah now sees their first album as a learning lesson. Aterix says "...I feel that the Fall 2007 EP was unnecessarily decorative at times and too predictable at others. For me those mistakes take away from the deep intention we have for our music."
Immediately after the release of "Fall 2007 EP", bassist Pete Lester left the band and Nafregah altered their process to make writing music more efficient. They now record as they write and Aterix and Ryan alternate instruments.
Their new album will be out in early summer and is expected to be much more dynamic and dark. ...stay tuned.
