Back in the '80s singer/songwriter Mark Deaton toured the eastern US playing clubs and college campuses, often opening shows for acts like John Prine, Doc & Merle Watson, Firefall, Mike Cross, Gamble Rogers, Jim Stafford, the Amazing Rhythm Aces, Pure Prairie League and Bo Diddley. Settling down on Amelia Island, Florida, Mark continued to perform locally while functioning as entertainment director for the 4-star Amelia Island Plantation resort.
Mark later established "EventCraft", a backline company providing production support for hundreds of touring artists from Tony Bennett to Jessica Simpson, and "Resort Talent", a talent agency specializing in corporate events at many of north Florida's top resorts, logging over 1,200 bookings in 2006.
Mark also currently serves as chairman of the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival. This arts, food & entertainment festival, now in it's 44th year and with estimated annual attendance of approximately 130,000 people, was held in 2007 on May 4th, 5th & 6th in historic downtown Fernandina Beach.
