In a nutshell....belly dance, modeling, burlesque, Polynesian dance, going to the gym, designing costumes, being near the ocean, life, lip gloss, learning, Midori sours, PR, marketing, writing, ocean conservation, philosophy, politics, reading, going on emergency runs to the outlet mall, throwing down on the dance floor, Acuras (I looove my TL!), golden retrievers, learning about different cultures, being with quality people, ragging on hipsters and sorostitutes, great conversation, being provocative, going out for sushi, arguing, debating, overanalyzing, changing paradigms.....all that good stuff.
I'd like to meet:
Other bellydancers. Dancers of other disciplines. Photographers who would like to collaborate on photoshoots. Nightclub promoters and booking agents with serious intentions to book live entertainment. Fans of Middle Eastern dance. Charities looking for entertainers to contribute to benefits. Fellow creative spirits. People who are down to earth, passionate, fun, and most importantly, real. A guy who can man up and take me on.
Music:
Music is my life. I can't even begin to describe how eclectic my tastes are. Obviously, tons of Middle Eastern stuff. Shakira is my hero. Sezen Aksu is SO enchanting. Natacha Atlas, Tori Amos, U2, The Cure, Mana (I think of Mana as Mexico's answer to Counting Crows), Thievery Corporation, Counting Crows, Sublime, Gypsy Kings, Tool, Propagandhi, System of a Down. Classic rock is the greatest and I've got a soft spot for power-ballads. I LOVE old-school Madonna. I have a soft spot for Italian love songs. Anything flamenco. Anything salsa. Real mariachi, such as Rocio Durcal. I also adore Prince, a mortal whose parents were probably gods, and was conceived when the moon was full, the tides were just right and the stars were aligned to perfection: he's a genius. Classical, Top 40 bullshit, hip hop, even some country....seriously, I love all genres. (But I still don't quite get house music).
Movies:
Napoleon Dynamite, Borat, SLC Punk!, The Goonies, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, anything Star Wars (shut up!), Moulin Rouge, Pleasantville, The Search For Animal Chin (brownie points if you've heard of that one!)
Television:
Sex and the City, Blue Planet, South Park, The Daily Show, The Chappelle Show, Ali G, the Food Network (although it's borderline pornographic when you're hungry!), and anything on the Discovery Channel involving giant squid.
Books:
"The Little Prince" is my all-time favorite, it's a beautiful, philosophically rich love story that makes me cry everytime. "The Beauty Myth" and "Promiscuities" by Naomi Wolf are poignant and eye-opening. Anything by David Sedaris cracks me up. Eric Franklin has some brilliant dance physiology/kinesiology stuff. Dante's Inferno. The Odyssey. The Iliad. The Great Gatsby. I majored in English: ask me about any book and I have an opinion. Except for whatever's on Oprah's book club.
Heroes:
Shakira, of course. I'd like to think she represents hope for girls like me: she's 4'11", has a 145 I.Q., writes the most quirky and self-deprecating lyrics, dances like a madwoman and is more than just a little bit weird....but tops Maxim's Sexiest Woman Alive chart every time.
