Killa Keem (federal name: Hakeem Hasan) was the second of three boys and born in the southeastern wiregrass city of Dothan, Alabama. You might know this city as ‘Da Dot’ or ‘The Circle City’ in which hip-hop culture is on the move. Even in this small city the struggle to be heard begins early for a rapper. Keem was born into meager beginnings. He grew up knowing that what he was going to get in life, he would have to take in one fashion or another. He grew up in the streets, doing all kind of things and making all kinds of moves, some he wanted to do and others that he had to. This was the fuel for his lyrical fire that still blazes today. Killa Keem resides on the North side of Appletree St. and is a graduate of Northview High School class of 2002. Keem now 23 years old, plans to expand his talent, music, respect, and finances all across the Dirty South and the rest of the nation.
Killa Keem always had an ear for the music industry and knew that his calling would manifest at an early age. He started writing rhymes, lyrics, and songs at the ripe ol’ age of 8 years old. Keem did not know that this was somewhat of a chronological irregularity, he just thought it was part of his being. He then began honing in on his skills and started recording every chance he came across at the early age of 15. Friends and family played major roles in helping him form and filtrate his music to the populations. His cousin, ‘Jaw’, and his company “Bunked Out Entertainment†(B.O.E.), was where he produced his first legit mixtape called, "Street Talk", in 2000. This was just a window of great things to come in the future. With his notoriety hitting the incline, Keem has done and is continuing to do several shows in the southeast region of the U.S. These places include: Atlanta, GA; Abbeville, AL; Albany, GA; Dothan, AL (Club Rio, 360); Jacob, FL; Marianna, FL. He has not only done collaborations, personal events, and group tickets, but opened for well known artists. As a personal highlight, Keem has opened for the legendary Lil Wayne and respected Cash Money Label.
In a recent journalistic Q&A he was asked, “What sets him apart from every other rapper out there?†This is his exact quote, "The thing that sets me apart from other artists, is that I mix east coast and dirty south styles together as opposed to other southern rappers that only stick to the south. Another thing that sets me apart is the fact that I'm from Dothan, AL.†To elaborate on his quote, he was suggesting that he loves both south and east coast styles of rap. The east coast’s esteemed characteristic of lyricism and the south’s renowned, rhythmic bass-filled melodies are the motivation for his rap concoction. All in all, he grew up on both types of rap, so, it was only natural to mesh and forge the two together to form a KILLA KEEM way of spitting. Not to mention, being from a small Alabama town makes him have another diverse and unique dimension to his rapping technique.
Killa Keem’s new home is Supreme Kartel Entertainment . SK Entertainment is comprised of close allies in the industry that have formed a new but impressive label. It has several artists under its supervision and a ‘heart’ rivaled by none. So most definitely listen up people!
