George Chatzis

About Me

George was born in Kavala, Northern Greece. At the age of six he began studying the violin. At the same time he studied percussion and drums alongside his father, John Chatzis. From 1997 – 1998 he was a member of the Athens Symphony Orchestra and since 2000 he has been a permanent member of the Manos Hadjidakis Orchestra, The Orchestra of Colours. In 2002 he won First Prize in the First Pan-Hellenic Competition for composers with his composition “The Star Sign of Cancer” which competed in the Electronica/Ambient/New Age category. In 2004 he wrote the honorary “Hymn to Apollo” for the arrival of the Olympic Flame on the island of Karpathos. His oeuvres have been performed at the ancient theatre of Delphi and the Athens Concert Hall by the string quartet +Kinisis. He has worked with various Greek composers and singers both in the recording studio and in live performances. In 2005 he released his first album “Spiritual Icons” with EMI Greece.
