About Me

I have re-posted the early versions of "Killing A Friend" and "In The End" along with "The Visitor." Here are some brief notes on each of these songs: Killing A Friend started as a simple song I wanted to post quickly to use as reference to form the band. I figured if I wrote the simplest guitar line with some good melodies I would be able to create an orchestra of distortion over the song. Two condenser microphones were used for the acoustic guitar, vocals and drums. A drum machine was used for the kick drum. The main guitar was plugged in through a tube pre-amp with a clean sound and just used the distortion Cakewalk provided... The Visitor was a song that wrote itself when I was testing the equipment for recording. I recorded an acoustic guitar track and a vocal track initially. After Killing A Friend was done I went back to record another acoustic guitar track (or maybe two) and multiple vocal tracks. I think there are 16 separate vocal tracks. I was going for a choir feel... In The End was a really good lesson in recording the drums for me. Killing A Friend sounded good to me but the hi-hat patterns obviously sounded looped. Instead of looping the drum patterns, the snare, hi-hat and cymbals were all recorded live but individually, the kick drum unfortunately had to be the drum machine again. The guitar sounds on In The End were all recorded clean through the tube pre-amp and processed after. Distortion, Delay and Chorus were added and was pushed to its limits. I wasn't getting the same results as a real amplified guitar sound so some of the guitar tracks had to be doubled or even quadrupled to get the sound I wanted for the song. The new version of this song remains closest to us playing it live.
