Leap Year Tour Spring 2008

About Me

This kid must be crazy as he chugged his last chug of chocolate milk discarded his butterfinger wrapper and reved his engine insinc with the legend on T.V. Evel Knievel was making a new jump tonight and so was he. The whole length of Shepherds Creek had never been cleared by a daredevil dirtbiker in the whole history of the Dustboys Westside Spiderspoke Gang, but tonight it was going to happen.brotherlee recordsIf this were the first thing that I write would it last? The days were much shorter when I was a kid. A bunch of moments built up into a crescendo. I try to write records like that. My favorite classical piece being “The Rites of Spring.” I guess that’s why I’ve decided to launch the leap year tour in spring. February 29 for those who don’t know. The best thing about spring is that the colors are alive and for an artist that is radiant. To create art you must feel it or else you are doing something wrong in my eyes. When I look at a creation I want to know what’s inside. I want to feel it breathe it and keep it a secret. The very beginning of my journey was as a kid playing grease lightening for my family. I’m sure there were other things but at five I had my first guitar and it wasn’t until much later that I got my second one. We’d sit by Grandpa and sing songs. Dad had a cover band called the concept. My only goal then was to be a kid. I played sports with my brother an activity that taught me discipline and courage. My favorite movie to date is still Bull Durham if not for the fact that it applies to so many different levels. My brother Lee and I were very close and I even named the record label for him. Brotherlee records. A brother is a friend and I include all even my sisters. The time it takes to make a record never compares to the hard work and good memories that go along with them. Even in times of solitude I recall friends that have helped and friends that were there. The best thing about life is that you never know who’s going to be there to make you smile, laugh or cry, but I believe there is a plan.Skateboarding toughens you up, but when you meet a friend at a skateboard ramp that has a band it could be a life changing event. Brad Stenz from Moth gave me an old bootlegged Sex Pistols tape and told me it was his band. From that day forth I tried to learn my instruments and make a go at it. These early days were kind of awkward for me and others as we all started heading down our own roads. The best times would be going to the woods and then back into practice with the band. Brad would drive me on my paper route before practice most of the time. There was a day where I skipped the route for practice. Years later Brad would call on me for an idea and surprise me with a present. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was the first book I ever read. I was born on October the first the day the factory was opened. A slipped performance at Cincinnati’s Bogart’s where I was supposed to give a golden guitar with my Grandpa. (I even tried to get my newest guitar instructor to play the part.) Would put Brad and I at odds. Later, a peace treaty was formed that specified that was the only guitar I was allowed to play live with intent to hand it over one day. After I left Moth (or whatever we were called then) I formed a number of groups. Spare Change being the one that got to play at some college parties. We would sail our ark with Noah on drums in Liquid Sky. I wasn’t until I met this guy in high school, however, that things started to take off. Quentin and I would write songs together like it was as easy as slicing the pie. Morgan’s Song being the most intimate endeavor written on acoustics in the attic. What really formed HIGBEE, however, was writing a song called Cathy’s Car. Two heads on the same wavelength defining a sound called squishy pop. There were other elements to this fine teen-age concoction. Damien’s stiff little fingers on the bass. Hooter’s mystery beat behind the drum’s. Dan‘s quick fit to the group when we needed it most. Rachel‘s singing in my ear is the sweetest kiss to our record. The most important thing was that we were all in it together. We played many a card games which I would lose, and ran a ragged road to the finish line.I was introduced to Zy O Lyn via The Brewery and artist space in Over the Rhine. He lived in the space beneath us and would put the violin part down to Dirgered. Though at first skeptical to his friendship I would learn a lot from him. We became good friends, and he was a very good boss as we set tables downtown. This would end as we all quit when he got fired for drinking leftover mimosa‘s after a cool party. (I went out on a date with the coat check girl.) The Brewery Days were mostly defined by moments such as a party or coats on in the winter shirts off in the summer. There were flocks birds outside the windows in the fall and a beer vat in my bedroom. Dan and I painted a mural on what would be a 20ft high stage. We wrote on the walls and tore up the stage when we left. For part of the stay at The Brewery I would live with an older woman and became a quite capable underwriter for many a bands not knowing with or without. Bands such as The Flaming Lips( Quentin broke his arm it wasn‘t a spider bite), Guided By Voices,( I am a scientist is in the vein of swinging from the chandeliers) The Strokes, Oasis(Don‘t Go Away was written on a cool morning outside as I was watching the sun rise from a nightshift job. Wonderwall about the Brewery walls) and Cornershop(I often refer to myself as agent 45). My Chemical Romance is my favorite as it is about my Dad who was a marching band hero. The Strokes ring true on a couple of notes, “alone we stand and together we fall apart” speaks of the pressure of putting another band together or reforming HIGBEE. “When we was young all man did we have fun” speaks of my love for my brothers in the group. I was always writing defining my craft and I was always trying to make myself better. This quality in me translated into three books of poetry of my own and many other collections of art.Hooter became a fixture in my work the day he showed us the song Daybed. He always wanted it played slow and I would always speed it up. Until a day I was introduced to the Stooges and took a good look at my own work noticing the raw power. He was the best teacher I had ever met and one heck of a drummer. When I was left alone to record my own projects I missed him so much I even called out Hooter where are you? Displacer Beast is how I tipped my hat to him on Pirate Radio 666 and I even imagined displacer beast existed. Maybe they do…The Buzz by far was the coolest artist hang out in Cincinnati. They only served caffeinated coffee and you could always pick up some kind of conversation or new music. It was here that I did most of my writing inspired by a fellow poet friend. It was also here that I would start handing out the Kayneevol Monster Monster Munchy Munchy tapes. So inspired one day that I even went in with some of my paintings and my big wheel motorcycle (saved from my fifth Halloween costume) and staged my own little art show happening hanging a painting on the wall to see if anybody would notice. The tapes were rough and to tell the truth I didn’t know whether I was writing a record or making a recording. The response was positive and when I listened to all seven records I knew my work was complete. It was after these seven records that brother Lee began to take a real interest in my work providing me with a kustom made amp and a portable studio. After putting them to disk via the studio. I took a short vacation to New Orleans. Inspired by street artists and clowns, in fact, I fell in love with the whole world. I came home and recorded the You Rock My World sessions in a carved out hole in the basement never knowing that Michael Jackson also had a record named that. So they teased me for awhile and played beat it even at my cousins wedding. It was at this time that my work became more introverted only taking the time to put the stamps on envelopes to a handful of friends and playing about one show a year. Plans were put on hold to take care of my Grandmother who had become sick. I went to school and became a nurses aide. When she had gotten better I left the home to move in and be her own personal aide. I learned a lot from her and other clients. The best classroom in the world is at the feet of your elders. Some of my clients were reserved and others friendly. Some liked to be entertained and I could do plenty of that. Other’s would play records while I worked and I’d coyly listen. Overall it was a good experience and I laugh thinking of the silly things that happened in these times.Treasure and Trash came about as a project to remind us that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure and visa versa. Played loud and clear in my Grandma’s basement on the weekends when she would go to the hairdressers my dad, Daryl Cammerer, would play drums in a very hit/miss style. Using lines that I would/wouldn’t throw away I decided to turn it into a double record, the second side of the record cut with a smokey amp. The contrast between the two is what I love, and the sound is something that I hit on all the way through MMMM. Living with Grandma put me into a steady routine of getting things done and got me hooked on late night shows as she’d always want to stay up. When she was content to watch T.V. I was happy to play guitar somewhere far off. Staying up late gave me the time to write poetry and I wrote my 3rd book by her side. I drew an angel for her when she was in the hospital. My artwork started to flower as the drawings in my life took new shape. Eyelashes would remind me of her. Bags under the eyes for my Dad who worked so hard for my family. Converse shoes for my Mom who showed me how to draw them when I was a wee tot.Inspired from a plan drawn up years ago I began painting on mirrors when I could find the time or money or yard sale or dollar store to help it along. The plan was to paint them in hotel rooms to earn my stay as a kind of commercial/hoax it still could happen as many of the other tour items suggested via my web-site www.kayneevol.com such as trading clothes with a fan to my song underwear. Structured as a ramp to the other dimension I created Billy Kansas to be a kind of tour guide as he turns into a vampire in the unfinished novel Lactose Junkie. Billy paints a mirror with his toiletries, lipstick, shaving cream, mouthwash etc. in the climax of the story. Really a transformation from the first guitar that I owned which was damaged. I was told that fingernail polish would cover up the error so I took to art and bought all kinds of colors. Later, as my cartoons or mirror bob’s (some like to call them Nerds) began to take life I would use toothpicks and fingernail polish to paint. Never knowing whose imaging would come forth in my work I imagine them to be friends, fans, nerds or bobs.I had another artist friend that lived in a loft above some storefronts in Loveland so I started looking around my neighborhood for a similar stay. There was an all ages club and string of bars in Cheviot that looked promising so I took all of my paintings and began work on a new project. I remember the first day I decided to poke my head in the Hat. The kids were playing a song called “I believe in a thing called love”! They all raised their fists in the opposite direction of the stage and I knew I was doing right. Unfortunately I ended up getting a ticket that night, and I took the warning to heart. A new plan was made to play in my studio upon the clubs closing to say hello to the kids who made me feel so whole. I guess the kids really are alright. Thanks guys!Burning in Heaven is a love record. Reflected images of a true love were brought back to life on this record.. Fire elements through-out, put back a fire in my heart that had always been there but ignored for awhile or just particularly placed. My proudest work to date, I hung it up for a few months after saying “I hit my dinger and I‘m going home.” Upon this I realized it was merely the first part of my journey that was over. Written from what would be my forth workbook I have pictures of me sorting through the pages. I would line them on the floor and hover above with the guitar. It was the first record that I really wrote from a structured craft. This is the record that I really wanted to write. Months of late night writing. Periods between painting. Playing the guitar until I found the just exact way to say it. Using a little writing tool to first get it down. And then just doing it! UNTIL THIS I ONLY LED WITH MY HEARTUNTIL THIS MOMENT I FELT INCOMPLETE“If it’s too loud. You’re too old!” A quote from a poster that seems to be hanging in Christian Slater’s pirate radio station located in his parent’s garage. I’m not sure how many pirate radio stations were erected after this movie, but when a bunch of teens from Cincinnati stuck up there fingers and pumped up the volume people started to listen. HIGBEE and their pirate radio 666 immediately became a cult classic. Kayneevol separated from his band and hidden like a future king that would one day overthrow the wrong began a new path to a new goal. Joining forces with his friends, fans, and soothsayers, a steady regimen of what might be the truth in rock-n-roll was sought after. Maybe a good rock-n-roller might say after that he said, “Well Fuck It!” A man of peace placed himself in a world of confusion only to find that he must stand alone and not be confused. Belief is the key, love is the bullet, and understanding is the wisdom in that once you understand you might not want to know. “At times I wear invisible stripes on my arm. At times I play pool” “Sometimes I wear a scarf in the summer. Sometimes I go to church.” “I write for God alone, but I can stand in front of many people and be heard.” “The powers that be would never like me. They’d say I’m a grave for the one that I’d save.” Trials of life and love. A true artist would want to find his own. Between writing and painting I play music. All gifts of God. I have been a poet, a rocker, and artist. I have deciphered works of the past and I have found my writings that I have thrown away turned from trash to treasure. I have woken up next to the wrong person, and I have found the right person standing at the door. My visions are complex yet simple, but I’ll be the first to tell you to believe in yourself.KAYNEEVOL PEACE TREATY IN THE CAN AND READY FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE....
