it goes like this, the fourth, the fifth...

About Me

i like the feeling of bare feet in carpet and being curled up in bed, reading until my eyelids drop...folklore and mythology fascinate me...spiders scare me and self-imposed ignorance infuriates me...i've decided to get a tattoo, but have to wait until i return stateside at christmas to get it, so that my partner in crime and i can do it together - i'm thinking of posting pics of the entire process...i usually am able to see three different points of view on any issue, which can greatly irritate people, but i think you need to see the whole kaleidoscopic panorama, and not focus on one color/shape...i heartily encourage philosophical and/or metaphysical conversations, the kind where you're up until three or four in the morning, and the more tired you get the deeper your observations become...i love taking all kinds of photos, in both color and b/w...like any true gemini, my point of view and current interests shift rapidly but, hey, it keeps it sparking - at the moment, i've been way too tied up compiling research to have too much time left over to pursue fun stuff, but (when still in possession of free time) i was writing what i'm hoping will be the first in a trilogy of books...
i'm currently in london, as part of a master's program in victorian studies through birkbeck college, university of london...after this year, i'll either continue with the phd program here at birkbeck, or i'll return to california...though i'm not sure exactly what i would do once i got there...i've always been interested in teaching and really feel strongly that i should get into it, but i'm not sure if i'd be able to tie myself down into any set city or age level right now...i've spent the better part of the last six years as a bit of a nomad, and there's a certain comfort to that type of existence, though i want all my stuff with me and not in storage forever...
Places of travel interest: nepal, alaska, japan, central america, the scottish highlands, russia, egypt, south africa, australia, hawaii, new zealand, greece and the scandinavian countries...
Things i'd like to try at some point: scuba diving, snowboarding, sky diving
Languages i'd like to be at least a bit familiar with: japanese, portuguese, italian...and i'd like to be fluent in spanish...despite being a cali native, i don't know anything besides "i don't know", "hello" and "good-bye"...this would make for very limited conversation...and the fact is that it's really tragic how few americans are fluent in multiple languages...living in europe makes you a bit ashamed of the lax nature of the american education system...and with the world "becoming smaller" all the time, it's good to be multi-lingual to increase communication opportunities...(just a thought)
