About Me

Hi, I'm Jessica.

I'm a 22-year-old Journalism major at Rutgers University. I used to love writing; then I went to college. What I want to do with my life changes on an almost daily basis. Permanence and routine bore me. I absolutely refuse to settle. Future prospects excite and terrify me equally.

My friends and I go to extreme measures for the bands we love. You can most likely win my approval with a favorable interest in politics and a caramel-coffee beverage. I can talk to you about food for hours. Macaroni and cheese is essential to my well-being. My mom is my best friend in the world. All I want is good friends, good music, and a full tank of gas.

I fully believe that who I was has greatly contributed to who I am. I've been blessed with amazing people, amazing bands, and self-respect that negates all of the negativity that has gravitated to me in the past.

My Interests

Music, food, writing, travel, politics, and shrugging off responsibility in honor of anything that makes me happy.

I'd like to meet:

Graduation, an iPhone, a Nintendo DS, the guarantee of a job out of college, politicians and political analysts, celebrity chefs, Edward Norton, and Gavin Rossdale.

A sweet, talkative dude with extensive knowledge of music and food.

Music:

Saves the Day
Brand New
Kevin Devine
The Movielife

Manchester Orchestra, Colour Revolt, The Loved Ones, Neutral Milk Hotel, American Nightmare, Brian Bonz, AA Bondy, Miracle of '86, Race the Sun, The Get Up Kids, Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil, The Decemberists, Aeroplane 1929, Limbeck, New Found Glory, Bush, 90s alternative, the pop-punk that characterized my adolescence, bands that were better in 2000-2004, and some other stuff .

Oh, and NPR.

Movies:

American History X, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, 90s comedies (usually pretty bad ones).

Television:

Top Chef, Sex and the City, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, American Gladiators, Project Runway, Food Network MSNBC.

Books:

The Associated Press Stylebook
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
His Bright Light by Danielle Steel
How Soon is Never? by Marc Spitz
Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman
33 1/3: In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Kim Cooper
But Enough About Me by Jancee Dunn

I'll read pretty much anything loosely integrating music, journalism, and popular culture. I literally do read more maps than books.

Heroes:

This album, this band, and my mom.

Stole this idea from Mike. I thought it was really cool. It turned out to be more influential, but I take that as the same thing as "changing the music I listen to." Many of them were favorite bands o...
