Influences: Published: May 08, 2008 2:24 PM EST By: Isaac Davis Jr., MBA (Juniorscave.com) Coming out of Lake Charles, Louisiana with a vengeance Hip-Hop Entertainer Leger is showing the music industry that the South is not going away anytime soon. Check out this recent interview with Ledger completed by Junior’s Cave as he gives us the 411 on his music and the industry he loves.Isaac: Briefly describe how you entered into the music industry.Leger: Actually I have a buddy that was recording for fun when I met him, and from there I was interested, ya know? I had to learn a few things, and trim a lil fat, and decided I’m good at music and I love doing it...so hopefully I can get some love back and really I have been growing and gaining a lil weight in the game so look out I’m on it.Isaac: One of the reasons why I was drawn to you because of your style. Briefly elaborate on your backgroundLeger: Well, as for me I love music, and any style is good as long as its music, a lot song I hear now are gimmicks with no meaning or feel to it and I don’t get it. My background listening to music coming up was Isley Brothers, Bootsy's Rubber Band, and Prince. Ya know music had a feel to it, but when rap hit it was like damn I can talk about anything that is going on in ways that my peers can feel. My style is karizmatic I relate to so many people on so many levels because I want to touch people in ways they can relate to while still giving my story and how I feel about it.Isaac: What is the most rewarding aspect to making music currently for you?Leger: I love making music because I can explain to everybody how my thought process works. I have people so opposite of me say man I can feel where ya coming from. It just goes to show how everybody can relate on some level or another.Isaac: What has discouraged you the most about making music?Leger: Bullsh*t people, and that’s all I got to say on that if you BS thru life that’s what your life is going to amount to; Bullsh*t. If you not serious...GO PLAY!! Not with me tho!Isaac: What does being a Hip-Hop entertainer mean to you?Leger: An entertainer to me is not just making good music but its taking your music and using it to bond with your fans and take just a song to the next level, keeping the crowds interest and show them why they love your music, give your love back to the crowd, cause if you don’t have any passion for your music nobody else will.Isaac: Do you have a personal philosophy about music? If so, what is it?Leger: If I cant listen to it and get something out of it, what’s the point. If I hear a song and don’t remember anything but the hook...I probably won’t listen twice, gotta make em feel it... It’s mandatory!!Isaac: When you are performing live in front of an audience, what are the thoughts that are running through you head?Leger: Well, I am a very confident person but there's always a chance of something going wrong. But this is the thing I believe, "Fail to plan, you plan to fail" I’m a real person and I cant come with no fake sh*t, or I don’t feel it, so keep it real wit the crowd give em what they want, and know you there for them, so act like it.Isaac: Why is being an independent musician important to you?Leger: The most important thing that I know in this biz is learn anything you can the more you know the less help you need can’t trust too many people in this biz, so it’s best you learn something about everything, know what’s going on with you. I believe in Pimpin somebody has got to do it, so Ill pimp myself, thanks...unless you talking the right money of course.Isaac: Do you think the Internet has altered the path of music as an industry? If so, how?Leger: I think it helps if anything us down south. I mean--don’t have record companies all over and the exposure is great for some artist in less populated areas, I use it and it helps me a lot. It doesn’t take up for the physical exposure but it helps a lot.Isaac: Any advice for other musicians out there when it comes to using the Internet as a medium for getting their music heard to the masses?Leger: I mean just like everywhere else there are snakes; they have the Internet too, just know what you reading and getting into, make sure you read up. It’s a lot of waste of money and time to do things that are of no use and plenty of people trying to get you to do em.Isaac: What kind of recording software do you use?Leger: Varies, long as sound quality is good I ain’t downing nobody set up.Isaac: I know that everybody has his or her idea of a dream artist, someone who for whatever reasons that person would just love to listen to and admire. As an entertainer yourself, if you could play with one of your "dream" musicians, anyone at all, who would it be and why?Leger: That’s a good one. Off the top of my head right now, I’d say Erykah Badu, that’s my girl. I love her music because it’s real. I’m like that I know others; she never left her, that’s the real. I feel like we could make something that would make people cry.Isaac: What are you hoping to gain from your experience of being a musician and making music?Leger: Hopefully man, exposure. I’m confident in myself and my craft, if I can get that exposure, “people will understand why I'm Dying to Live”.Isaac: What are you hopes for your music in the year 2008/2009?Leger: Well, I got another compilation coming out in June; best of luck on that. And I’ll begin working a solo project a lil later in the year. I’m working to drop 2 compilations the first "hustle hustle" in June and one sexy album for everybody to have a lil theme music when they gettin "special", ya know?Isaac: This is our Shout Out time. Please give props to anyone and everyone that matters the most to you.Leger: Everybody that deal with me I can be complex at times. B-Double-O of Double Hustle this cat is throwed, that’s who I got on my tracks, want different he got that. White Gravy up in Battle Creek, Mi repping the south Lake Charles comin up!!
