About Me

I could stare at this for hours...

To anyone who sends a friend request: If we don't already know each other, please send a message and introduce yourself, and in particular tell me how you found me or why you picked me out. You can see I only have a few friends listed here, and they are nearly all people that I know personally. The few I don't know personally are folks whom I admire in some fashion and whose work I therefore want to help promote. As my friendslist gradually grows, I hope and intend to always be able to say the same about every name there listed. So introduce yourself please.

My Interests

Animal

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
-- Mohandas Gandhi

"Nothing will benefit health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as the evolution to a vegetarian diet."
-- Albert Einstein

"The human appetite for animal flesh is a driving force behind virtually every major category of environmental damage now threatening the human future: deforestation, erosion, fresh water scarcity, air and water pollution, climate change, biodiversity loss, social injustice, the destabilization of communities, and the spread of disease."
-- World Watch

Today's Gem of Wisdom

"A bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives roses."
-- Chinese proverb

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is."
-- Albert Einstein

"Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of God no matter what the conflict."
-- Anonymous

"All prayers are answered. We need to distinguish between a prayer unanswered and one not answered how or when we would like it to be."
-- Lloyd Ogilvie

"Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare."
-- Japanese proverb

"The opportunity that God sends does not wake up him who is asleep."
-- Senegalese proverb

"Before we set our hearts too much upon anything, let us examine how happy they are who already possess it."
-- Francois de La Rochefoucauld

"Judge each day not by its harvest, but by the seeds you plant."
-- Anonymous

"A man who knows he is a fool is not a great fool."
-- Chuang-Tse

~
"But of bliss and glad life there is little to be said, before it ends; as works fair and wonderful, while still they endure for eyes to see, are their own record, and only when they are in peril or broken for ever do they pass into song."
-- J.R.R. Tolkien (narration from The Silmarillion p. 95)

"Yet it is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherin we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till. What weather they shall have is not ours to rule."
-- J.R.R. Tolkien (Gandalf, The Return of the King p. 861)

I'd like to meet:

shy, thoughtful, slightly old-fashioned folks who: enjoy seriousness and silliness in equal measure; appreciate nature, artistry, and simplicity; aren't afraid to hold on to inspired ideals despite other people, life experiences, and even their own weak hearts challenging them to expect or believe in less.

Beren and Tinúviel by J.R.R. Tolkien, sung by Colin Rudd (see blog 5/9/07)

Giovanni Hidalgo with Edmar Castañeda and friends - "Timba, Timba"

and more...
Edmar Castañeda with David Silliman - "Edmar's Tune" (Berimbau)

Famoudou Konate and Koungbanà Kondè playing in Italy

Acrobats of the Sarakasi Trust

Rubén González - Siboney

SRV - Little Wing and Third Stone from the Sun (partial)

Jake Shimabukuro - While My (Ukulele) Gently Weeps

LD Miller, at 7 years old, invited to jam with Buddy Guy
