About Me

I live in Victoria and play violin, guitar, some accordion, a splash of mandolin and a hint of mouth harp. I also lay claim to being possibly the worst banjo player I've ever heard. I have a very nice banjo, though. I write most of my own songs and most of the time gig on my own. There are two reasons for this. One is, I like the freedom and the other is I can't afford any players. My heritage is fourth generation Irish on Dad's side and Mum is Japanese. My paternal grandparents played piano and Ojiisan (my Japanese grandfather) played and taught cello in Hiroshima. My favourite TV shows are The New Inventors, Spicks and Specks, Rockwhiz, The Cook and the Chef, Global Village, The Iron Chef and the segments of Sesame Street that feature Cookie Monster. The most played cd's in my car are by Jim Mills, Laurie Lewis, Sephane Grappelli, Craig Smith, Aubrey Haynie, Tommy Peoples, Martin Hayes, Alison Krauss, Ricky Scaggs, trad Japanese, the Yoshida Brothers and a Mongolian folk singer I saw in China, whose name I can't read! The type of music that interests me most is acoustic instruments played well, fine singing and good songs.Apart from music, my other interest is plaiting stockwhips......something I've been doing since I was a kid. I take orders, if anyone out there wants one!If this bio doesn't tell you much about what I play musically, (and it doesn't really....let's be honest) have a listen to the songs above. They tell the real story. See you somewhere in the musical stew. - Pete
