About Me
"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."

Never in my wildest of dreams could I have ever envisioned that this sincere gesture of love would blossom into the most amazing and beautiful manisfestation of pride and unity that it is and represents today!SALSATHON was born on sunny day in Honolulu, Hawaii as I pondered on thoughts about this special island, and how so many Puerto Ricans had journeyed to Hawaii over 100 years prior, to work the sugare can fields. I began to think about the staggering number of people who resided on the island 1 million +, and that about 10 percent of that number where of Hispanic or Latino origin. In addition, of that 10 percent, approximately one third were of "Boricua" descent and extremely proud of being Puerto Rican. It was also brought to my attention, that San Juan, Puerto Rico was and continues to be "Sister City" to Honolulu, Hawaii.
I think that it was at that moment.. that I literally stopped in my "thinking tracks" and said.. "Now, let me get this straight, there are over 33,000 Puerto Ricans, living in Hawaii (not counting military personnel), Puerto Ricans have played an important role in Hawaii since arriving in early 1900's, Honolulu, HI has a Sister City relationship with San Juan, Puerto Rico.... and no one is celebrating El Dia de San Juan?" The rest is "history."
Through the efforts of committed and loyal volunteers, supporters, participants, entertainers, dance instructors dance teams, dj's, special guests and sponsors (who continue to step up and be counted year after year), SALSATHON 2007, now in it's 7th year, will once again be presented this coming June of 2007! Be sure to check it out!
