Business mainstream embraces 'green is good' mantra
By PHIL KLOER The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 04/22/08
Humanity hurtles toward doom. Species fade into extinction. Global warming threatens the planet. There's only one thing left to do — create a reality TV series.
Call it "Battleground Earth." Get Atlanta hip-hop star Ludacris and rocker Tommy Lee to compete in a series of "green challenges" around the country.
"Each episode is themed around a topic like alternative fuel or recycling," says Eileen O'Neill, general manager of Planet Green, the new cable channel launching this summer that will really and truly air "Battleground Earth."
"So for an alternative fuel episode," she adds, "they're going to be dealing with vegetable oil in a pretty unusual way. Salacious, shall I say. It's gonna be great TV."
Great? It will be better than great. It will be green. And nothing is better than green right now."

Consortium of Developers Join Forces to Foster New Park as "Park Area Coalition" Collaborative effort among developers and community group focuses on new park in the Old Fourth Ward as its centerpiece, connecting historic neighborhoods, and promoting infill and redevelopment projects that respect neighbors and the neighborhood's rich history.
October X, 2007 (Atlanta): An exciting transformation is starting to take shape in the Old Fourth Ward. Through a host of cooperative partnerships and grassroots campaigning, the neighborhood stands to gain approximately 35 acres of park land. In addition, 3,000 new residential units and appr oximately 500,000 square feet of retail, entertainment and offic space will be added around the park with some of the new developments in adjacent Poncey-Highland. While specific boundaries, measurements and a formal name for the new park are yet to be determined, The Trust for Public Land (TPL), who has been working closely with the City of Atlanta, has acquired just over 10 acres dedicated for the park.

A Renaissance Man is one who has broad intellectual interests and who is in a position to acquire more than superficial knowledge about many different subjects. Johnny Colt is the epitome of your modern day Renaissance Man.
Many know him for his killer skills as a bassist for some of the most famous bands in the world. He’s played for The Black Crowes, Train, Asphalt Blaster and most recently, Rock Star Supernova. What many people don’t know is that Johnny is a savvy businessman, acclaimed photographer, real estate entrepreneur, yoga instructor, skateboarder, martial artist, an officer on the Board of Governors for the Atlanta chapter of the Recording Academy (Grammys), and most importantly, a husband and father.
If Johnny’s business involvements seem random, they are. “The only thing they have in common is that they’re all relationship based,†Colt says. “I get into business with talented and creative people.â€
Amazing success for a kid who grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta and left high school at the age of 16. He ended up in L.A., chasing his dream of being a musician, working as a telemarketer in order to fund his music program.
Why is he so successful in music and so many other endeavors?
Johnny says “In dealing with the music business, that you can stick to what you believe in, it will pan out. You don't have to do what they say. You can do it your way. You may not be the biggest man on the block or the wealthiest but the reality is, in the long term, you got to stick to your guns and remember this is all about musicianship. This is about making music; it's not about the business.â€
“You gotta have the strength and the nerve to make some big decisions and risks in business,†Colt says. “You gotta hustle and have the courage to listen to your intuition and follow your gut. No matter what anyone tells you.â€
Johnny is a down to earth, real person. His philosophy on “cool†sums up his approach to life and success, “…what would be cool is for people to think for themselves …â€
