The Strain

About Me

Four-piece rock outfit, THE STRAIN, (formerly known as Limestone), are well known around the Melbourne original music scene.
With a strong (and growing) fan base, THE STRAIN has performed countless shows with many of Melbourne’s leading rock acts, often to sold-out venues.
Their second album release to be launched at the Northcote Social Club is unlikely to be any different to the first – packed to the rafters with Strain fans yelling for more.
Their second album "Turn & Face" which is due for release digitally worldwide and physically via VENT, in Australia on 14 March, will be the feature of the night’s set-list.
Infectiously entertaining lead-singer Brendan Booth, ably supported by Salv Lupone (Guitar), Matt Hunt (Bass) and Simon Azzopardi (Drums) will ensure a great night of music and entertainment – that is assured! Local rockers Elephant Gun offer main support.

THE STRAIN’S TURN AND FACE DEBUT ALBUMThe time is nigh, finally after 2 years its ready , set, ready to rumble. Saturday March 28 is the date . Northcote Social Club is the venue. The set list is completed, the show is ready, tickets are selling , t- shirts are printed, the graphic designer Steve has finished pulling his hair out. Nigel Villella , producer, engineer , arranger, has moved on to other projects. Rob Iurato is in deep rehearsals , as he will join us ..boards in what will be a big show .

But what is this Turn and Face, what’s it about, why is it here. Is it “ Angel Falls “ all over again ? Is it just a group of songs brought together, is it a journey , a ride, a story ? Well here’s a peep preview of what the inside story is .

The Strain changed dramatically on day one of recording, starting a morning in November , the day after a sold out show in Melbourne’s inner city of Fitzroy. The band had come in blurried eyes but confident , only to discover that producer Nigel Vilella would rip us out of our comfort zone, stripping the songs back to the raw essence, and within the next few weeks and months , we discovered THE STRAIN.

Turn and Face evolved, the story of the people within the band, the story of Melbourne, the loves, the losts, the marriages, the divorces, new life, deaths, depression. The songs relate to all people , one way or another, from the denial of “ FINE “ , the love and commitment of the 1st single “ LETTER” , to the brash hard hitting “TURBAN AND THE TIE “ , a song about ethnic confusion, stereo types and finding your place in your society. “LOOKING FOR SIGNS” makes a comeback, previously recorded as a demo, with the beautiful strings and piano lines reinventing the song, A very personal song, which adds a beautiful but dark edge to the album.

Pop is not forgotten here, its still what THE STRAIN do best, with “SUCKER”, and “COUNTING TRAFFIC “ definite favourites, ending the 11 track album with a hidden track recorded purely in one take, with one microphone in the middle of the room, giving the album a live feel, with Bren delivering a fine, honest , emotional rendition of “IT SEEMS” : Check it out, MARCH 28. Launch at THE NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB with Elephant Gun and The Laura Wilde Band
