If you haven’t already heard about Ben Labat, it won’t be much longer. At 21, he exploded onto the music scene as the alluring lead singer/songwriter of The Terms. This dynamic musician wrote the band’s material and helped propel the group to rapid success. The Shreveport Times declared “The music does everything…it cannot be ignored,†and that Ben “delivers catchy lyrics with a rich and memorable baritone voiceâ€, while the magazine F5 compared the quintet to U2 and cutting edge website Ink 19 picked the album as one of the top 19 Independent Albums of the year. THE TERMS debut album, Small Town Computer Crash, entered Billboard’s Heatseeker’s chart at 11.
Spearheading The Terms, Ben made big waves at radio with his single "Big City Concrete Wildflowers". The song was one of the most added tracks on over 90 radio stations across the US, and was an early choice favorite at such outlets as AOL.com radio, Yahoo Music, ClearChannel.com, and Budweiser.com. The rising star also performed "Big City" live on NBC's "The Megan Mullally Show", Rehearsals.com’s ‘Emerging Artists†and the Fox show "Fearless Music TV".
Early success came from his home state of Louisiana when Ben was asked to write an original song for Louisiana State University's national campaign. "Welcome to the Now 'Evo Devo'" was heard during LSU's commercial campaign, which aired nationally on CBS Sports, ESPN, MTV, and NBC. If this isn’t enough to make you feel lazy, Ben also had the amazing opportunity to accompany Jackson Browne at his private acoustic show.
The talented songwriter has found success in the movie medium as well. With its prowling beat and haunting lyrics, Ben’s song "Ransom Groove" appears as the end credit song for the Kevin Spacey produced film, Mini's First Time. The movie boasts a stellar cast including Alec Baldwin, Jeff Goldblum, Nikki Reed and Luke Wilson. The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and is released by HBO Home Video.
With his own brother in the military, Ben has committed to do his part to help support our nation's troops through his love of music. He’s performed on several major U.S. military bases including Fort Polk, Shepards AFB, Little Rock AFB, Barksdale AFB, Langley AFB, Fort Belvoir, Bolling AFB and Fort Bragg.
Several months ago, Ben’s band, ‘The Terms’, was in a serious car accident. Three of the band members were hospitalized, and are now undergoing a steady recovery. As a salute to his band, ‘Isthmus’ is included on his page, which is the last song he wrote with them.
Today, Ben's music has been placed on numerous TV and film projects and will be sold on itunes very soon.
