About Me

Big Easy nominated actress and vocalist, Troi Bechet is a life long resident of New Orleans, La. She has been singing since the age of 7. She began her classical training in voice while attending Ursuline Academy and continued her musical training at both Xavier University and the University of New Orleans. In addition to performing jazz which has been her focus for the past 10 years, she also performed with the One A Chord Gospel Singers and she performs each week with the House of Blues School House Band where she teaches youth about the history and traditions of the blues.Troi has shared the stage with such musical great as Kermit Ruffins, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jessie McBride, Astral Project, Bob French, and "Trombone Shorty" Andrews and has been the opening act for Boney James and Stevie Wonder.As an actress, she is best known for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill". In April, 2008, she performed at the New Orleans Superdome, with Kerry Washington, Shirley Knight, and Anna Deavere Smith, in "Swimming Upstream" a play about the spirit of New Orleans in the wake of the levee breaks which was directed by Kenny Leon. She co-wrote the play along with 15 other artists and activists.
