Influences: In 1910, deep in southern Mexico in a small village hiding from the new reformist government, a Mexican revolutionary took shelter. Emiliano Zapata was his name and he was a much-respected leader in his time. The village knowing of his importance initiated a large fiesta for Zapata and his men. The men ate and drank until the tequila was dry. Because of their power and respect, Zapata figured that the town was obligated to help them and because he was in charge he thought that he could do what he wanted. That night he raped a sixteen year old girl……..................At that time, because of the social norms women were not respected for baring children out of wedlock and the sixteen year old victim moved northern Mexico. She gave birth to a little girl by the name of Maria in the city of Juarez. When Maria turned thirty, she fell in love with a local salesman and ran off to spend her life with him. She then started her family and gave birth to five children. (One child she called Mario.)Mario was a rebellious Pachuco who loved rumbles and did not hesitate to get into fist fights to see who could fight the longest with out getting knocked out. This man then proclaimed his United States citizenship in Texas shortly after marriage. His hopeful dreams became obscure when he encountered hostel discrimination. This discrimination was not only from society but from his family who considered him a traitor for leaving his home land of Mexico. Having read of an intellectual leader named King that was fighting for discrimination as he was in the 1960’s inspired him to enter college in hopes that education would offer him a different key to success. In 1964 he traveled to Washington D.C. to hear the great Dr. Martin Luther King speak of truth. In the mid 1970’s, Mario and his wife Luz gave birth to their last child, me. FALL.
