In 2002, Mike Burns and Jeff Bower entered a national talent search (C.A.T.S.) under the band name No Middle Ground. When they were selected to compete in the West Coast finals, they had to quickly form a band in order to participate in the live performances. The new band won the West Coast region and performed in the nationally televised finals with their first song, “Crazy ‘Round Here.†Personally, members of No Middle Ground have a positive outlook on common themes running through their lives and in their generation---overcoming drug addictions, in-patient rehab, broken relationships, love, searching for truth, finding purpose, perseverance, losing parents, and social struggle. In 2003 and 2004, No Middle Ground produced two demos at Painted Sky Studios with long-time A&M sound engineer Steve Crimmel (credits include Lionel Ritchie and Reba McEntire) in Cambria, CA as well as placing 2nd in two other talent searches (Summer Soundoff, Exalting Him! N.T.S) at the regional level. In 2005, No Middle Ground performed regularly in venues throughout California and signed their first recording contract with a Los Angeles based Independent label. The release of that album in January of 2006 brought new opportunities for touring and performing around the nation. The self-titled project was co-produced and mixed by Grammy winning engineer, Nathan Dantzler (Audio Adrenaline, Tree63, Switchfoot, P.O.D.) and mastered by Tom Baker (Christina Aguliera, Hoobastank) at Sterling Sound in Hollywood. The first single, “Fly Away,†earned light play for several weeks on a handful of reporting CHR radio stations. From March through September of 2006, the boys hit the road and toured with dozens of artists drawing crowds as high as 2,000 people including Todd Agnew, Shawn McDonald, Paul Wright, Alabaster Box, Olivia the Band, SafeHaven, EveryDay Sunday, and Kids in the Way. In April they performed at a showcase for the Gospel Music Awards in Nashville, TN and throughout the summer made festival appearances all over the West Coast. 2007 was a rebuilding year that saw two band-member leave and a struggle to invent a new No Middle Ground sound. Currently, No Middle Ground is reunited with engineer Nathan Dantzler producing a new album due out in early summer. The new sound is more mature, melodic, and groove-oriented. One can hear elements of the classic British-style song-writing of Coldplay with some U2-style guitar riffs and an infectious pop energy that engages listeners of all ages.
